or do these songs have to have english lyrics? only the 4th song has english lyrics, but you should be able to pick up how to pronounce the lyrics in the others by listening to them.

That's a difficult one. If someone gets you- you're going to have to give them not only MP3's of the songs but lyrics as well.

MY advice to you- you'll get better results with songs in English.

I'm in, but I'm still picking my songs.

I was considering putting some j-rock myself, snicker.

I know if I got Japanese stuff, I'd at least give it a shot. (Though I'm not too eager to have to study anything Visual Kei.) If I got Japanese stuff I listen to, I'd definitely do it.

that whole _album_ is just mind-numbingly fantastic. it was like, the promise of wire fufilled.

and then the rest of his solo records fluxuated between okay and sucky.

It was between that and "Pickin' Boogers".

I don't expect anyone to surpass the original, but like you I am quite curious to see how some of the fighters would approach it. Good times.

Count me in. Don't be scared by the obscure bands, I assure you they're all melodic rocky thingies, and can provide reference material. In order of preference:

1) "Don't Bring Me Down" by John Stephens / Neve / Genius
2) "Put Me Down" by Dada
3) "Drifter" by The Inane
4) "There Went the World" by Number One Fan

Will wonders never cease?! You guys keep amazing me with some of these choices.

I saw these guys live in Spokane on 02.21.04 at the B-Side. I won tickets, actually, but had never heard of them before that.

They put on an AMAZING live show, ESPECIALLY for a 3 piece band.

I almost put 'crumble' from their new album as one of my 4 choices.

They actually come back to Spokane this month, same venue. Needless to say I will be there.

Oh I think Wire fulfilled their promise from the single release of 'Outdoor Miner' (the one with the piano break to make it over two minutes) then vascillated between brilliance and pretension.

Sure but I would listen for the beautiful voice alone. And whatever he did it was better than Dome's stuff.

I agree with Glenn - all pretty good choices so far. Indeed there are enough here that make me hope to get a certain person to make a covers album ...

I edited my list into an early post, but this year, I tried to keep it as 'popular' as possible. What amazed me last year was how few people knew what I thought were popular choices, and how few of other people's choices I knew. It was kinda humbling I guess.

I'm rambling ...
