I think you chose this once before. Which is where I first heard it. Wonderful song.
I have indeed and it is, indeed.
Wire is a band I seemed to have missed at the time they were around. First became aware of them through REMs cover of "Strange" on Document (I think?). The heard "Outdoor Miner" via you. have been slowly accumulating stuff ever since.

Don't know how I missed them first time around!

I got stiffed last year until my bro furrypedro decided to do me an amazing version of We Built This City last week. Better late then never. What a swell guy!

Here's my list for this year:

1. Eels - Fresh Feeling
2. Rocket From the Crypt - On A Rope
3. Why? - Early Whitney
4. The Kinks - Supersonic Rocket Ship

(it wouldn't allow me to post youtube links so msg me if you can't find the songs)

Phil Redmon was the undisputed King of the Stiffees. That guy just seemed to get hosed every year.

Here are my choices, all alphabetical and shit:

"Ain't It a Shame" - B-52's
"Barbarism Begins At Home" - Smiths
"Cop Killer" - Body Count
"Drown With Me" - Porcupine Tree

MP3s can be supplied upon request. Those last two are particularly tough to come by.

Ooh, yeah, that's an amazingly singable song. I learned it earlier this year to sing as part of a solo acoustic set. I only really knew the Cocteau Twins version but the original is a lot earthier.

His is very distinctively *his.* did you ever record yours for any reason? :)

I picked songs this year that had something emotionally grabby to me about the melody and had a stylistic distinctiveness in the original artist's recording - whatever the song is, it'll really have to be claimed if it's picked. And hopefully kept as part of a repertoire. I'd like to accomplish something like that with my pick, anyhow :)

No, but it's one of a bunch of covers I mean to record in 2012...

One the of the odd things for me about the song is that because I only listened to the Cocteau version and didn't have the lyrics, I only had the words that I could decipher from Liz C's warbling. Which were quite wrong. Even now people seem to differ about some of the words -- is it "Were you hare when I was fox" or "Were you here when I was full sail" or (what I thought it was) "Were you here when I was formed?"

When I made that closing date, I clearly wasn't thinking straight since I forgot about the whole Thanksgiving weekend thing that tends to keep people busy and keep people like me off the boards. Fluffy (or anyone else), you have until the end of the month to enter.

A Few songs to choose from for the Boffo Yux Dudes entry.

Today's The Day by Inverse T. Clown
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMJ8chq15ss

This I'm really hoping someone does. There are a dozen covers of this song, so I'd hope for a unique interpretation of the Clown's classic tune.

Right Said Fred: I'm Too Sexy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39YUXIKrOFk

Again - a simple song that you can take in a new direction. Fred 's swagger makes this one fun.

Wesley Willis:  I Whipped Spiderman's Ass
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFjuPbCShBw

Al's on shrooms. Must be to pick this one. I laughed pretty hard at it.

Louis Jordan & The Tympany Five ~ Beans and Cornbread
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fM9jT2eM6KQ

A fun tune from the 40's for you to update.

Those are our picks! Hope someone can do them justice.

Okay, I'm still waiting on 2 people to give me their song lists before I distribute lists.

A couple of you put up lists made of youtube links. It might be good to give the song titles and band names for each one.
