Wire is a band I seemed to have missed at the time they were around. First became aware of them through REMs cover of "Strange" on Document (I think?). The heard "Outdoor Miner" via you. have been slowly accumulating stuff ever since.
I got stiffed last year until my bro furrypedro decided to do me an amazing version of We Built This City last week. Better late then never. What a swell guy!

Ooh, yeah, that's an amazingly singable song. I learned it earlier this year to sing as part of a solo acoustic set. I only really knew the Cocteau Twins version but the original is a lot earthier.

I picked songs this year that had something emotionally grabby to me about the melody and had a stylistic distinctiveness in the original artist's recording - whatever the song is, it'll really have to be claimed if it's picked. And hopefully kept as part of a repertoire. I'd like to accomplish something like that with my pick, anyhow

One the of the odd things for me about the song is that because I only listened to the Cocteau version and didn't have the lyrics, I only had the words that I could decipher from Liz C's warbling. Which were quite wrong. Even now people seem to differ about some of the words -- is it "Were you hare when I was fox" or "Were you here when I was full sail" or (what I thought it was) "Were you here when I was formed?"
