Re: What are you listening to right now?
actually, you would sound really good singing this song.
kitties optional.
twas serious about success of a CR version tho. I think I'm inspired by your carpenters cover and hear that kind of thing on this but with that and with the cool bass and some horns
I dunno. Is it strange I do the "ooo, this songfighter could cover THAT" thing?

I woke up with the Partridge family's "I Think I Love You" in my head. Odd, so I had to youtube it.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
That's the song I would sing/lip sync into a wooden spoon and perform for the neighbors when I was a kid. I don't know if I would have wanted to play music if it weren't for the Partridge Family.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Yes, they were inspirational and brought out the musician in us both, it would seem.
Also, if you take a hard listen to that song, the music is real good and well arranged. Listening in my headphones at the way it's mixed is giving me ideas. Simple and clean.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I'm pretty sure it's the Wrecking Crew on that and most of their albums. Same with the Monkees.

Really? I thought the Monkeys were the musicians. Now I need to look up the Wrecking Crew.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
The Monkees eventually played on their own records, but at first they were just vocalists with the best backing band in the west.

Is anyone else completely infatuated with the most recent Mastodon record? Specifically "Curl of the Burl" and "Stargasam".
Very neat record.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
That is pretty rockin'. Sounds like a cross between Alice in Chains and Corrosion of Conformity.
....plus, you've got to love a song that starts, "I killed a man 'cause he killed my goat".
I'm guessing that curl of the burl in this case is referring to a knot on a tree. Because it sounds like a song about a lumber jack.

If you're liking the techno the kids are calling "drum&bass" with a little "dubstep" tossed in, you may really like this: http://bit.ly/sZiIFq my buddy kid ellipsis is a pretty amazing DJ, and has a crazy assortment of fully weird songs. You should check it out.

I'm going through a techno/pop phase. You really can't beat these lyrics: "I can teach you how to get straight A's but you really want to F."
Sometimes, you just need a break from insightful and deep songs. My next SF entry will likely try to emulate this style.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Bill, yes he is actually a friend of mine. I met him while he was attending UVA in 01 at a rave me and my friends threw. He became a regular DJ at our parties, and I have followed him since. I just love his taste in music, and style of mixing.

And you can tell him that some other random person on the interwebz said that dubstep is as talentless as painting a house with colors that aren't approved by the homeowners association.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
i assume this means using their talents in a stupid pointless way... you should give the above mix a listen, its not all grinding wobble bass, and a smattering of weird noises, there are actually some pretty good tunes on there. given, "dubstep" has been bastardized and popularized by hipsters, and the artist "Skrillix" (who by the way was in a god awful post-hardcore-emo band before going techno, and you can actually hear this in his arrangements) and is now synonymous with that weird sound that you hear when the word is even mentioned (and sounds an awful lot like when i accidentally pluck the spring doorstop on the wall)... but truth is that when used correctly, dubstep can add a lot of emotion, and spontaneity to a drum&bass or jungle mix. this may just sound like rambling.... cause it is...Billy's Little Trip wrote: talentless as painting a house with colors that aren't approved by the homeowners association.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I did listen. And it had some nifty, dare I say NEAT-O sounds. I do enjoy sonically cool sounds, such as the city during rush hour or the sounds in the forest as well. Depends on my mood. But that's all it is to me. Layering rhythmically. They aren't playing anything, they are sequencing beats and sounds. Instead of painting the house white, they go "buy" a bunch of bright pretty colors and paint it real colorful. Yes, it can be cool at times.
Real musicians build the house and make their own paint.
.....have I ever mentioned that I'm the worst analogist in the world?
