Apropos of mastering:
1) Thanks to Jast for sharing those blogs
2) This is best analogy that I've ever encountered about what mastering is (and how it's different from mixing): Mastering is like Photoshop for audio.
3) Also, I was just ruminating about compression earlier today, and thought "Well, audio compression is a like a sponge, right? It squeezes the sound together... no, wait, that's not right." Um... turns out it is right. Whoda thunk?

I've watched several of Ian Shepherd's vids and read a lot of his articles. Good stuff.

Right up to where mistakes in the composition/arrangement of the image/mix or the use of sucky hardware are very hard or impossible to fix in Photoshop/mastering.nyjm wrote:2) This is best analogy that I've ever encountered about what mastering is (and how it's different from mixing): Mastering is like Photoshop for audio.
