Funniest thing ever

Post by Caravan Ray »

Have you dudes been getting any Australian news over the past few days?

We have a Prime Ministerial battle of Shakespearean proportions going on. Or perhaps "Biggest Loser" proportions. It is hilarious. Tomorrow at 10am we may have a new Prime Minister. Or we may not.

This is far too complicated to explain. I just feel sorry that most of you people miss out on the wonderful comedy potential that the Westmisnster System brings. Then again. I have seen on the news bits of your Republican Party leadership stuff. That is beyond comedy - that is approaching surrealism.

...and note - I hate people that use that term lightly. Seeing someone wearing a similar hat to yourself is unusual - it is not "surreal". A giraffe bursting into flames is surreal. And the idea that approximately half of a very well educated nation may consider being represented by some christian fundamentalist freaks who think global warming is some sort of euro-conspiracy is approaching burning giraffe territory.

The number is pretty skewed, though. Single-party primaries only turn out half of the voters in the country at best, and even then, less than half of those want the crazy conspiracy-theory fundamentalist in office. If even half of those voters agreed, this contest would have been over by now.

So in actuality, fewer than half of the nation are registered Republicans, and fewer than half of the registered republicans turn out to vote in the Primary, and then fewer than half of those are actually voting for Santorum. So think of it like this. 100% of the population is here. Only about 30% are registered Republicans, and those 30% are the only ones who get to vote in the primary. Of those, something in the neighborhood of half will not show up to the polls. So now we're talking about approximate 15% of the total population. And of those 15%, only about a quarter support Rick Santorum as their primary candidate. So he's only got maybe 4% of the general population behind him.

The scary thing is this: He's managed to convince the nation that that 4% is a national mandate for Dark Ages policy based on religious doctrine. And if he maintains his lead, everyone else will drop out of the race except for Obama (and a few other candidates who won't get any significant number of votes anyway - including Roseanne Barr), and then Rick Santorum will probably attain somewhere between 45% and 53% of the general election vote share, just because of the (R) next to his name. Now that's surreal.

We can always count on jon jon to break it down for the American voters. Thank you. :)

Our choices are so terrible. The "real" OZ behind the curtain made sure to find the most mindless idiots to run. He wants puppets that smile and recite pre-written speeches well. It's easier to squash us if we are distracted with shiny baubles and motivational rallies.

Say what you want about the other puppets, but Santorum is the real deal. He's pretty incredibly consistent in his professed beliefs, voting record and stated philosophies. And he can speak on his feet very well without teleprompters. I'd go as far as to call him genuinely sincere (something his R rivals have no claim to be, and even O seems weak there at times). This may be something that carries him through. It's also insanely scary.

Often wrong but never in doubt.

It's unfortunate that he no longer has "the Google problem."

Aww, when did that happen?

At least "Spreading Santorum" is still on the first page of results.
