Yeah, the loose opening was part of the creative process. Loose to tight. Contrasts that work good together, like sweet and sour, black and white, etc. I've always loved that feeling I get when I'm watching a band, any kind of band really, even a high school marching band, and everyone is making random noise with their instruments getting ready. Then as soon as the drummer counts out with his/her sticks, or a conductor raises her/his baton and begins, snap, the band comes together like a well oiled machine. It's a magical moment to me.

Really? That's funny. This was the first time I've written it. Are there any other songs in particular that it reminds you of? I like to think that I've a added a little something unique to the admittedly common story of the plight of the repressed loner. At the very least I don't think there are too many other entries this week that cover the topic in the same way I did. At least give me credit for that. Thanks for the positive production comment. Wait... you didn't like my 80s synth?! Haha. That was actually a filtered acoustic guitar - I thought it sounded fun. It sounded a bit too serious with the straight acoustic there. hehe.

so, sorry folks, but I wasnt able to write up detailed reviews of everyone this time 'round. Did give it all a quick listen, and I particularly liked both paco's (l realized right away that it was a scene from a wonderful novel made into a wonderful movie starring Robin Williams- impressive idea to use!) and pigfarmer's jr's, which has a great 6/8 soul feeling.

My Favorites:

1. sonofsupercar - Very messy production and lots of dissonance that I wasn't sure was on purpose at first (although now that I'm into the song a ways it must be.) I like the attitude of this one. Lots of personality. Now that I've heard the whole song I think it's really good. Some great hooks in the vocals.

2. Lonbobby - This one took me on an interesting journey. Great production (which is of course a big part of this style.) The vocals match the style well. Reminds a bit of Air (I'm a big fan of some of their stuff.)

3. Mickey Skylark - Cool current events/political commentary deal. A bit silly but enjoyable nonetheless. I've done some political songs (and I'm pretty sure we have a shared perspective from the lyrics of this one) as well although never with lyrics as developed as these (or anywhere close to them.) The instrumental part isn't remarkable but it's well done and fits the style of the vocals nicely. (Nickey Nylark --- I love Vietnamese & Thai food too.)

4. Grid - This has an original feel to it. I kept thinking I knew what was coming next but then something else entirely came. I love the funky drums & guitars. Really cool despite sounding kind of underdeveloped.

5. WreckdoM - I'm not really into the vocal part of the song the music is cool. It reminds me of Beck's Midnite Vultures.

6. Billy & the Psychotics - I liked it and then the break around 1:40 came and now I really like it. Really cool little break there. The vocals are excellent and the production and instrumentation seems pretty much spot on for this genre.

7. Berkeley Social Scene - I dig the instrumentation. Great guitars & drums.

8. Blake And I - Crazy. I like it. Reminds me of some Ween stuff. The keys at the end really took it to the next level - nice touch.
