10th Annual Gift of Music
It's about time for the Gift of Music. Now this is usually where I would just cut and paste stuff from the previous years and let you guys just run rampant with your 4 song choices but this year is a little different. There are a few things that need to be addressed.
First off, I wanna thank Anti-M again for coming through in the clinch last year. I still have no idea what happened to Eddie Bangs last year and I haven't heard from him lately other than an invite to his new band's concert. But if he wants to be involved in this year's GOM, I'm more than happy to have him aboard. As of right now, GoM is kind of homeless. I figured by this time, I would've gone and gotten myself a brand spanking new website but instead I ended up taking that money and investing it into getting engaged. So, if anyone wants to offer their space for this year's GoM, that would be great.
One aspect of the GoM that I want to look at is the charity aspect. In the past, Eddie has donated some money to JDRF as a part of GoM, which is pretty awesome. This year, I wanna try and continue that charitable aspect but maybe do something a little differently.
A few days ago, I lost someone very close to me, my fiance's uncle Richie. He passed away to cancer at the age of 61. It came on quick and aggressive. We learned he was sick in late August and lost him the Sunday before last. Uncle Rich happened to be the most selfless and generous person that I have ever met and probably will ever meet. Just writing this has me tearing up because he was a really great person who touched the lives of everyone he met. One thing about Uncle Rich is that he loved Christmas. It was said many a time during the wake that he was like a real life Santa Claus. So for this year's GoM, I would donate to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Now I don't have much but I'll give what I can and if anyone other GoM want to contribute as well, that would be awesome. And if anyone has any ideas on how we can incorporate all this great music into the donation, I'm all ears
Speaking of the music. I know there is sometimes a gripe when it comes to the GOM because sometimes people get stiffed. Hell, I run the GoM and I haven't gotten a song in 2 years. There's always a chance of that. All that I can say is that, it's in the giving that we receive. I'll be a part of this year's committee to make sure that no one gets stiffed and I'll do my best.
So start putting up your lists of 4 songs that you would like to hear someone cover. And being that it's the 10th GoM, if after the signup deadline (which will be in late November) has passed and you see a list that you really wanna do or a songfighter on the list that you really wanna give a gift to, drop me a PM and I'll see if I can make it happen.

Cool. I always like GOM. It feels like I am making music for a great cause.
Rest in peace, Uncle Richie.

Sorry to hear it Niv. But congrats on the engagement! I have web space that we can use but I'm not really a web designer.

Not sure if I want to come out and claim this - but if you get shafted - I would certainly consider backing up with this.
I have no idea how I would do this - but the thought of doing it is certainly intreguing

Re: 10th Annual Gift of Music
Since we don't have Soul Tree Records this year, I talked to the owner of a company I do contracting work for (Video Streaming Services, LLC, and from whose equipment I would do the hosting for this GOM if Niveous needs it) and he generously agreed to a $300 donation to charity in a similar fashion as previous years' GoMs.

Re: 10th Annual Gift of Music
I was inspired by The Nerves, I-Ten, Robert Hazard and other such musicians who made pretty good songs and someone else covered their songs and made them extraordinary. Here are 4 songs from lesser known bands and I hope that someone can take one of the songs, make it their own and surpass the original.
"It's All Right To Fight" by NInja High School
"Up With Mittens, Down With Gloves" by Red Fox Grey Fox
"Advice For Young Mothers To Be" by The Veils
"Delivery" by Compulsion

Re: 10th Annual Gift of Music
Excellent. Here be songs. I may fiddle before the 30th (matron) but this is what I'm feeling ce soir
I Chose some of the most British songs possible, just to alienate the most of you. Be glad I didn’t venture into the Fall …
The Move – “Blackberry Way” – a great, forgotten band for some reason I can’t quite fathom. Where ELO started -
Viv Albertine “Hook Up Girl” - frankly, any song off the fantastic new “Vermillion Border” album would be acceptable, but this one for the “Milk, milk, lemonade” verse …. Viv Albertine – Hookup Girl - http://open.spotify.com/track/1Pi8jeeocOOb2pQBRHnVEM
Django Django “Default” – not as good in the studio as they are live but still one of my favourite newish bands -
And an easy but pretty one if those previous don’t excite you, possibly the perfect pop song - The Undetones “My Perfect Cousin”
