3/13/13- Collabs

Post by Niveous »

Hey there folks.

Today's Question of the Day:
Is there a Songfighter that you would like to collaborate with that you have never gotten the chance to?

I feel quite fortunate that during my time here at Songfight, I have gotten to work with a lot of different musicians. But still there are a ton of musicians I haven't. And a guy that tops that list for me is Caravan Ray. I mix between my morose ways and his upbeat Aussie punk would be batshit crazy.

Funny, I've never knocked one out with John. We've sort of co-mingled, but never really wrote together. We have tried, but life keeps stopping us from "something". Maybe the "most important song in the world"?

it's hard for rhythm riffing melody guys to work together. Music boxes sound nice, but two or more of them playing together sound like demonic possession. So.........yeah, that. :)

I'd love to join Octothorpe on stage someday. As for collaborations, I'll try and work with anyone but I think the best would be someone that appeared to be a mismatch. I did...something...with Fluffy a few years ago. I like his music plenty, but that didn't seem like an obvious team, to me, on the outside.

I think Niv nailed it there.

I have done bits of things with BLT and Paco in the past. But that is tricky. Because we have a lot of similarities

The last few weeks I have done songs with JoAnn Abbott. It has been awesome. She is quite possibly the most opposite person to me on earth (I am basing this on her Facebook postings - I have heard of your American Tea Party - but I do not think they would welcome me as a member). JoAnn is a lovely person and very funny and I love writing music for her lyrics - but I think we are very different - and from there, we have a place to start.

I would not know where to start with Paco or BLT. I think we come at things from the same sort of angle.

So - if you have time this week Niv - it does seem like a perfect title to mix as you say " my morose ways and his upbeat Aussie punk" - hit me up and we will see how we do - or, lets do it later - it is a good idea.

Fluffy: I think it was some kind of re-mix thing. I'll see if I can find it. Oh! Was it for Bad Cat?

EDIT: Indeed, it was a re-mix of Bad Cat from 2008. I tried to attach it to a PM but it's too big (?). You must have sent me the WAV files, as it doesn't appear to be a chip-chop job. Let me know if you want me to send it to you, it has some good moments.

Oh, right, that. I posted that on my website already. I wouldn't consider that a "collaboration," really.

I'm up for more collabs. I don't think I've done nearly as many as I would like that involved SF! folks who are not local to my area. A long time ago there was talk about how Glenn Case and I should do something together, and it hasn't happened yet, so that's an obvious one. But really I'm open to working with anybody in any way. I have and play a lot of different instruments and am ok at recording/mixing. Services available!

I was going to hit you up for some pedal steel guitar and a solo on Witch Hunt, but got busy and we ended up barely getting it submitted on time. But I actually wrote the guitar parts with you in mind for a track or two. It would have been a nice texture weaving between vocal parts. The next time we do a bluesy blue grassy rock song, I'll check in with you. :)

You and I sort of collaborated a while back when you did a song using my lyrics for 'less of you', but it would be cool to do a more in depth collaboration someday.

Yes, thanks again for the lyrics! That was fun. I've also used lyrics by Abecedarian for "Soft Orange Glow", and Niveous for "Spaulding Gray is Missing". I used someone else's lyrics for "Here Comes My Dragon" though now I can't remember who wrote them and I may not be able to figure it out because that was back in the days of the old SF! bulletin board on Dumbrella.
