Complain about your schedule. Apparently people like that sort of thing.

4/5/13- Nirvana

Post by Niveous »

Happy Go for Broke Day all you gamblers out there.

Today marks the 19th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's passing, so my question of the day is

QotD: what is your favorite Nirvana song?

My favorite is, without a doubt, "You Know You're Right".

The self-pitying whiny grunge genre never really appealed to me but I've always had a soft spot for Cobain. I like the pop hits, but Big Cheese always made me smile.

For me it's a tossup between "In Bloom" and "Lithium."

I think Lithium wins because of this:

All apologies is my favorite. Especially the unplugged version with the Rasputina gal on cello. All Apologies is the most original Nirvana song to me, most of their other stuff sounds like the Pixies to me, that one sounds like no one else.

Melora Creager of Rasputina toured with Nirvana but wasn't the cellist at the unplugged. That was Lori Goldston of Earth.

Smells Like Teen Spirit has received a lot of acclaim over the years.

And I think it deserves every bit of it. Hell of a song.

So many good ones. I like On A Plain or Very Ape. They come to mind first. I'm with Roymond on the whiny grunge bit, but loved Nirvana from the (Nevermind) start. I listened to that album and the Breeders "Pod" every day for months.
Bringin' the stink since 2006.

Wow, so many. Although I love the Grohl years, some of my fav songs are from bleach with Channing and Crover.
I still remember buying Bleach after a friend played a demo from an L.A. show way before they blew up. He said, dude, you have to hear this, they sound like Circle of Influence (my band at the time). I loved it right away.

Then there's love buzz. I smile every time he says "your the queen of my heart". Like it's a stretch when he says "heart". :)

And Insecticide is ALL great. Molly's lips, Silver, Stain, Dive. So good! I've always loved how Aneurysm starts all unorganized, then kicks in different.

I like most Nirvana songs, but they often lacked a sense of self-awareness that appeals to me, which is probably why my favorite Nirvana song is "Lithium" by a pretty wide margin. I'm also quite fond of "You Know You're Right," and I bought that self-titled greatest hits collection when I was in high school just to get that one song on CD.
