Ouch. I don't recall "significant use of" being discussed. I really hope folks don't decide that means "a lot of"

Oh come on, it's Round 5. All the challenges should incorporate "significant" or "judicious" from hereon out.Niveous wrote:You're right. We didn't mention that. Out that goes.

[NOT EDITED, TO RETAIN SNARK]
No. Just trying to push *you* out
I would attract all singers still in the competition who don't feel they have falsetto in their range to LOOK AGAIN AT THE CHALLENGE.
I love capitals, me.

I don't recall Frankie's Heartshaker going over that well, though I'm still a fan of it.
This judging panel and Frankie remind me of NE4s judging panel and Reist.

Oh do elucidate, sir, I wasn't listening those days. Did Reist charmingly and against the pail not do a song about STAR WARS? :pglennny wrote:This judging panel and Frankie remind me of NE4s judging panel and Reist.

Re: Nur Ein VIII- Round Five
I still love my "Heart Shaker" though I think it could do with a vocal re-take. Unfortunately, I was living the live of a hobo at the time and I believe it was recorded in GarageBand on my (ahem) work computer. So it's not an easy fix.
"Firestorm" is not my favorite title. It's kind of dull as a concept. Too fantastic to take literally and too cliché to use figuratively. But that's the game, I suppose, so "Firestorm" it is.

Re: Nur Ein VIII- Round Five
My memory was that the judging panel of Nur Ein 4 ( the 2nd best panel of all time, 2nd only to NE8) seemed to collectively favor Reist. I consulted the data, and it was more even than I remembered between Reist and Frankie. Anyway, it's not a criticism, a complaint nor anything other than an observation. This panel sure loves Frankie, not totally undeserved he's awesome. Reist was awesome too.
Star Wars- I guess if i put myself in your shoes I can see why Star Wars is out of left field. In my world there is Star Wars everyday. I have a 5 year old son. There are daily light saber battles, he'll use the force to choke me from across the room, I'm always trying to get him to come to the dark side so we could rule the galaxy as father and son. Legos, wii games, action figures, comics, all 6 movies, seasons of clone wars, etc...
BTW i made a 3:20 version of our last song because a little J$ was on my shoulder muttering "efficiency!", we decided the longer version was stronger. I also had a brief chat with Frankie (what would Frankie do) and he told me to be true to myself. So I was and we scraped in.

Re: Nur Ein VIII- Round Five
Not everyone! There's usually one judge (probably not the same one every time) that has me ranked quite low. *shrug* What are you going to do?glennny wrote:This panel sure loves Frankie...
I'd love to hear the 3:20 cut of your song. I'm curious to see what you did. I'm a fan of brevity. My metal tune clocked in at 2:45 and I think that played to my advantage. One of my favorite challenges of all the Nur Eins was the "Bullets and Lovers" "Two Minute Challenge." Keeping things tidy is one of my strengths, I think, and it seems to work well in this context where judges have a lot of songs to digest in a short period of time. I think a lot of times longer songs suffer from repetition without variation, especially when they're made quickly for the competition and you don't have the luxury of time to come up with more and more interesting ways to present an idea.

Re: Nur Ein VIII- Round Five
I did falsetto last round. Do I get extra points?
Actually - would be OK if we just pretend that the "use a mother" challenge is this week, and I just enter this song that I did for FAWM last year:
Firestorm of Emotion
https://soundcloud.com/#caravanray/firestorm-of-emotion
where I wrote and performed music for lyrics written by a lady named Nightengale.
I think it came out quite well.

...mind you - I have spent most of the last decade or so living in Brisbane - and as you probably know, Brisbane is an Aboriginal word that means "place of the men who sing in falsetto".

I like how high tensions get in this competition. Not for the conflict factor, but to see the passion everyone has for their music and just music in general. It makes me swell with pride.

Hey what happened to the other thread? Why's it locked? We have more things that need discussion and stuff.
If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.
