Nur Ein VII - Weekend In The City

Weekend In The City - Paco del Stinko

It was December of 1985
We headed to the Bahnhof by the River Main
First stop was Kaiser Strasse near the crimson glow
Garter belts and voodoo spells and smiles from head to toe

A weekend in the city, living decadent
I only got one picture I use as evidence
Nemo, Al, and Smitty, gone full speed ahead
We were all so living and lucky we ain't dead

We walked past the opera house and under crooked trees
Fire in our bellys and cold wind on our cheeks
Across the bridge and then a right to the spitting boy
Jazz or rock or African it was time to make some noise

Throwing kegs into the water from the boat's top deck
Fireworks and Champagne corks blowing past our heads
Off the boat and on the road, yo bitch hail a cab
A bloddy mouth but leave no doubt she asked for it real bad

A weekend in the city, living decadent
I only got one picture I use as evidence
Nemo, Al, and Smitty, gone full speed ahead
We were all so living and lucky we ain't dead

Only in your mind - Can you go back in time
But even if you could return - Would it be worth a try

Taxis and trolley cars and the U-Bahn
Bugging eyes on the kid from down on the farm
Faces, lights, and food, trash, and sex, and car fumes
So much life to live so far away from the tombs

On the phone but all alone no one gave a call
Dirty long-john answer in the bathroom stall
Breakfast time on Sunday's chimes with sausages and Fanta
Moving like a two-toed sloth but thinking you're a panther

A weekend in the city, living decadent
I only got one picture I use as evidence
Nemo, Al, and Smitty, gone full speed ahead
We were all so living and lucky we ain't dead

Only in your mind - Can you go back in time
But even if you could return - Would it be worth a try
Would it be worth a try - Would it be worth a try

It was time to go home
It was so long ago
Bringin' the stink since 2006.

Weekend in The City - Carlo Bruno Jr.

Relaxing weekend to spend in Vomit Town
She wrote in the invitation
To impress me as I want, all She needs is attract to us some peace

She does

First I killed a policeman who made me stop
Then I stole his fucking motorbike
She is searching for his helmet and his gun because She only looks for troubles

She does

Madnes and mayhem fulfilling me from you
Mountains of hate. You make me furious, my dear
Use your slash. The flamethrower is for me
Make them scream, make them feel the pain

She lies when She talks about how easy is to be there
On wicked weekend.

you threw me a ball
a long time ago
underhand
and i still missed
if i had hit
a homerun
would we still have recently kissed?

you were a flirt
and i was too
luckily i got your name
and even though i had missed
i was hoping for a second pitch

back then i was spending my holidays in new york city
back then i was spending my time trying to get you out of my head

we went our ways
i stayed north
you went south to the windy city
far away from your pain
and i thought i'd never see you again

back then i was spending my holidays in new york city
back then i was spending my time pretending not to think about you

now i think i understand why our lives didn't go as planned
there was a reason, oh

now i think i understand

cause i'm spending every minute
every hour, every day
trying to rearrange my moments
just to get another gaze
upon you
oh i'm spending my weekends with you

i'm stressed out and exhausted
i'm stretched thin and distracted

i'm sleeping half of what i need
on a bed that's cold and busted

i'm half the man i'm supposed to be
because my other half is stranded

without you
oh i'm spending my weekend with you

now i think i understand, why life didn't go as planned

i went to spain, i went down under, i went to new york
i went to out west, i went down south, and east through newark
but i wondered
if i'd followed through
what would've happend with you?

then one day
out of the blue
i reached out and made some plans with you
of visits
of roadtrips
i was staying in chicago with you

back then i was spending my holidays being down
back then i was spending my extra time spinning my wheels round and round
If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.

Weekend in The City
Words and music by Escandon/Phillips
Special guest Katy Escandon

(For this epic, San Francisco is "the City"...or as it usually capitalized in the local paper, "The City")

ACT 1 - Entering The City by the 101
The City is a knockout on this September day
This ragtag Angelino has driven a long way
As the sun is rising over Berkeley hills, there’s something faintly brewing giving me the chills
But I’ve come this far, and I’m too far gone to worry about what’s to come

The bars will not be open for hours more to come
So I drove up a crooked street and headed for the sun
Parked below the tower on Telegraph Hill, hopped aboard a cable car and rode until
I crossed Divisidero toward the panhandle, found the Haight quiet as a wax candle

ACT 2 - Girls in Golden Gate Park
Voices fill the morning with soft sounds throughout the park
Pleased to lure this stranger, pleased to flirt and feel the sparks

We have sung you here throughout the night time
We can tell a good heart from a creep
You look like you haven’t slept in ages
Come to the Tenderloin and sleep

Voices so angelic, smiles beatific
Troubles long forgotten, feeling quite terrific

We have sung you here throughout the night time
We are not the strangers that we seem
You look like you haven’t slept in ages
Come to the Tenderloin and dream

ACT 3 - The Thelonious Monks
You are very welcome to our humble abode
Fifteen true believers who walk a different road
Our women emissaries, and we apothecaries
Brewing subtle ecstasies amid sonic complexities

And if you want to trip the life fantastic
Come see just what we mean by being monastic
Because this is the Temple of Thelonious
One drop, and you’ll certainly be joining us

The potion isn’t bitter, in fact it verged on sweet
Such a strange sensation spreading head to feet
Fantastical visions blurring with the true
Could have been one minute or a year or two

If you want to trip the life fantastic
Come see just what we mean by being monastic
Because this is the Temple of Thelonious
One drop, you’ll be dying to be joining us

I think we got him under
And now it’s time to plunder

ACT 4 - Tenderloin Townie Tells It
You better take care of your wallet
Take care of your purses too
These crazies come out of nowhere
They’re coming after you

No one can be trusted
Their mojo must be stripped
Neutralize their powers
By taking anything in their pockets

You better take care of your people
This city ain’t safe for you
These freaks are mugging everybody
At gun- and knife-point too

The threat must be resisted
The Temple must be saved
And if the cops are unlisted
Just pull their arms right out of their sockets

ACT 5 - Got to Get Out to Get Out
Awaking inside of me
I realize that there were no zombies
The girls begin to dose me
I wriggle away much too closely
Gotta get gotta get gotta get gotta get out and get going home

The men try and subdue me
But I leave them clutching my robing
This isn’t what I was seeking
To run through the city streaking
My car is parked near the Coit tower
Escaping them takes all my power
Gotta get gotta get gotta get gotta get away and get on home

I make it through alleys and dodge all the homeless
But they know this city as if they owned it
Arriving in North Beach, unexpectedly stalled
I can’t cross Columbus, there’s a cyclist wall
I’m cornered and caught thanks to Critical Mass
I slip into a Kinkos and copy my ass
Gotta get gotta get gotta get gotta get just one more copy done

ACT 6 - One Panhandle or Another
The City sure knocked me out over this warm September weekend
The body bags are filling and now my sorrow has deepened
As the sun is setting through the Golden Gate there’s nothing I can do to possibly escape
Oh I came so far and I’m too far gone and I worry ‘bout the things I’ve done

The girls begin to dose me; the men, they hold me down
Then I float above a crooked street as the wind blows me around
It wasn’t my intention to discorporate, but my body couldn’t find another good escape
I crossed dimensions narrow toward a panhandle, Ursa Major’s quiet as a wax candle

Weekend in the City
by Merisan

She’s not awake
Every day’s the same
little silver cross
with heavy chain

spent her whole life
dying in a cage
till she met a man
destined for fame

He said “Catch the next train
don’t make me wait
I wanna see the night
wanna see your face.

I’ll show you all the lights
Show you with a kiss
I’ll offer you a ride
that you can’t resist.

She say’s “take me out into the city streets city streets
I don’t want to miss anything anything”

Take me higher than the endless night
Let me dive in the river by the red lights
Count a million stars, fighting to shine
You’ll get yours and I’ll get mine

And the subway sings like a choir
and the bricks just keep getting higher

Hot like gossip
on a telephone wire
She’s got a habit
gonna set her on fire

now she’s crawling on the floor
tearing at her skin
said he had some more
but she don’t know when

Take me higher than the endless night
Let me dive in the river by the red lights
Count a million stars, fighting to shine
You’ll get yours and I’ll get mine

Very short Nein entry

Fly into Manila [aah]
The girl that I want to meet
Lives there [lives there]
She seems so sweet
But very shy [she's so shy]

Her friend introduced us [introduced us]
He'll be serving as chaperone
Oh no [oh no]
Never alone
Weekend in the city

She doesn't look quite as cute as she did in her photos
Thick stone walls topped with sharp glass and rusty nails [and spikes]
Awkward and quiet and guarded by guys with machine guns [bang bang bang]
Where is the smart* funny woman I wrote thru the mail [ohh]

Lord, [Oh Lord] what am I doing here? [What am I doing here?]
Lying in pools of sweat on rubber lined sheets [rubber lined sheets]
Is it the stress or the fried fish for lunch
Jeepney smoke, crap on the streets? [the streets]

Her friends, [her friends] they all seem nice enough [oo-oo]
They smile and try to speak English to me [a-ah]
But I've got the runs and the toilet don't flush
This weekend I'm sick in the city

* accidentally sang it as "sweet"
