Long Weekender, Aug. 29 thru Sept. 2, 2013

Complain about your schedule. Apparently people like that sort of thing.

Long Weekender, Aug. 29 thru Sept. 2, 2013

Post by JonPorobil »

So it's not quite the weekend for most of us, but I'm pretty much mentally checked out. Plus, we create these Daily Roll Call posts so seldom anymore that it no longer seems presumptuous for one post to take up five days. Anyhoo...

I just turned in my two-week notice to my manager. After a little more than two years, I'll be departing from Dell, effective September 12, and joining up with PowerIT, a small software firm based here in Austin. The schedule is nicer than at my current job, it's 100% work from home, and I'll be making more money, too. I'm very excited about this change.

My Question of the Day is the same as it was when I first got the job offer from Dell back in 2011: What was your most recent major life change? And furthermore, how did it work out for you?

Moving back to Seattle and going back to Amazon. It's worked out very, very well. It's a shame that my previous group at Amazon was so toxic that everyone I know from it think that ALL of Amazon is like that. I'm glad I gave this place a second chance.

Perhaps one day years down the line, I'll be able to say that about Dell. Who knows? Kind of funny that your answer to this question last time was "Moving from Seattle to San Francisco and leaving Amazon."

Nothin' but circles, sometimes.

Getting engaged. It's going pretty well. Only 44 days before the wedding.

I'm in a hotel room because my new condo is tented for termites until Saturday afternoon.

....it's not bad. wi-fi is fast, it has a mini kitchenette, 40" LED HD tv with a lot of channels, my pups are allowed (at 25 bux each, ouch) and I bought micrognarlywave pop corn and a bunch of snacks! :)

...oh, and brownies! store bought, but still...brownies! :P

..oh and Mike's Black Cherry hard lemonade and some Sam Adams. So I'm content.

Yeah, but in the last time, I was already indicating that Sony was getting difficult. This time around it's only a year into my current tenure at Amazon and things are still awesome.

Congrats Jon!

QOTD: Starting work at Pandora.

It's totally dead here and I'm having a hard time focusing on work... and I'm running out of Internet. Help!
