What are the different colors about?

Links and other hanky panky that doesn't have to do with anything in particular.

Take me away.

I'm going to take issue with this later on when it's not time for beer. But basically, I completely disagree.
Don't want to get into this holy war, other than to note that while the applications/programs available for both platforms are approaching homogeneity, the operating systems themselves are still as different as, well, Apples and Oranges, heh.

Speaking of which, folklore.org has some great stories from the old days at Apple. Including a pretty good argument as to how MacOS wasn't actually a ripoff of the Xerox system (and anyway, whatever they took from Xerox they certainly haven't simply let be).

Ooh, also there's a great story which explains why it's so standard to use <a href="http://folklore.org/StoryView.py?projec ... >multiples of 11KHz for sample rates. (It's because of the video timings on the original Mac!)

My history's a bit hazy, but wasn't it their mouse (light pen?) demo that got the wheels a-turning with the Apple people for the soon-to-be-Lisa's OS?

Lisa and Macintosh were totally separate product teams (with a pretty bitter rivalry between them), to start with.

can i just mention that anytime i read the name "OSX" my brain's first impulse is to identify the "X" as a placeholder for a digit (such as "Windows 3.x") and therefore associate it with "OS/2"

That's a good point... would any version of OSX be "OS X.x?"

Back on topic, the colors have no real significance other than what the admin assigns them from what I've seen. No one title or color has any more value than another. Although at Halloween and Christmas I did note more seasonal color schemes. (Orange and Black / Green and Red respectively) The point is just pick a title you like (as was suggested earlier) and write a song. Good luck Toddlans.

I don't think Christmas' green/red was a Christmas thing, so much as a "we're not getting enough entries to justify a blue for now."
