A red thief stole my heart away
A red thief stole my heart away
I thought she could be trusted
I left it unguarded
This is the price I pay
A red thief took everything I had
A red thief took everything I had
I didn't have much
But I loved it so well
A red thief left me sad
Red as the lips that tempted a fool
Red as the shame I feel
Red as the heart that bleeds in sorrow
Red as the hands that steal
A red thief stole my heart away
A red thief stole my heart away

Re: Red Thief
Do the dead believe,
Alone on autumn-bitter streets
In grave machines behind fog lights,
What the dying see
In the doorways of their dreams
In the fever throes of night?
Stars deliver me my
Immortality in
Sparrows’ memories of time
When the red thief comes
And the dead hearts drum
I will rise again in vain
From the graves of doves
To the fires above
Here to steal your love away
I was night-light young
And my fears had just begun
In the bonfires of my mind
When the red came in
Breathing embers of my end
Whispers wicked, touches kind
Eyes for wandering and
Lies for squandering like
Sparrows’ memories of time
When the red thief comes
And the dead hearts drum
I will rise again in vain
From the graves of doves
To the fires above
Here to steal your love away
Alone on autumn-bitter streets
In grave machines behind fog lights,
What the dying see

In the fever throes of night?
Stars deliver me my
Immortality in

Bridge:
Em-B/F#-Em/G-Am7-D7/F#-Gmaj7-Em-Cmaj7-F#7-B7
Red Thief, you stole my heart away
Red Thief, like a Roman god of play
Red Thief, new adventure every day
Red Thief, like a golden holiday
I didn’t know I would want you to stay
But I want you to stay
Red Thief, I’m a superstitious man
Red Thief, without a master plan
Red Thief, like a broken violin
Red Thief, I didn’t mean to let you in
I didn’t know I would want you to stay
But I want you to stay
Red Thief, you played me for a fool
Red Thief, I’m still in love with you
Red Thief, my heart is what you stole
Red Thief, and I swear I didn’t know
I would want you to stay
But I’m so glad you stayed

NOTES: October 8th my beautiful Cherry Red ES 335 was stolen. I got her in October of 1992, she was my main guitar and my only electric since then. Her serial number 92741612 was treated like frets and composed the verse riff and pre-chorus of the song. The good news is, I saved my receipt all these years, and I have renters insurance. I spent nearly everyday for a week trying every 335 in the bay area. I settled on a blonde one just Thursday. I still miss my guitar, I'd buy her back in a heartbeat. Thanks for the understanding and kind words!
Verse 1
I shoulda taken the time to stop at the studio
And unload my gear
I was only ninety feet away
I didn't think there was a thing to fear
pre-chorus 1
I can't believe this is happening
You wouldn't want to be the one who did this to me
Chorus 1
I’ll stab you in the eye
I’m gonna make you pay for all my grief
I’ll stab stab you in the eye
you’re an awful wretched person beyond belief
Red Thief, Red Thief
Verse 2
It's hard to keep from falling apart
She's been a part of my life for the last two decades
I'm trying to replace her
There's nothing more frustrating
Pre-Chorus 2
My fury is hurried and increasing
You wouldn't want to be the one who did this to me
Chorus 2
I'll stab you in the eye
It won't even matter if you put up a fight
I'll stab stab stab you in the eye
You took my love I’ll take your sight
Red Thief, Red Thief
bridge
Oh no no no
Verse 3
her cherry red is in my head
I will always miss her
I got a blonde to carry on
She's like a younger sister
pre-chorus 3
My rage is engaging and increasing
You wouldn't want to be the one who did this to me
Chorus 3
I'll stab you in the eye
you’re gonna pay for what you did
I'll stab stab stab you in the eye
with the tip of my blade
I'll stab you in the eye
you’re gonna feel my pain
I'll stab stab stab you in the eye
I’ll get you

Re: Red Thief
my wife wrote the lyrics to this one.
Rossby Wave - Red Thief
20,000 days turned her tide, the waters have run dry
Luna's moon has set and she's lost her track of time
Youth completely shed, a period gone awry
Ladybug's fluttered away, fertile days say goodbye
The red thief pries, then stabs her twins with the elder knife
Luna cries, the change an inevitable plight
Say goodbye to her o'very nice reproductive life
Dizzy and in despair,"the change" clouds her mind.
Sweat beading on her forehead, these flashes make her cry.
Though her fruits are barren, family keeps the tree alive.
Ladybugs fluttered away, fertile days say goodbye.

Re: Red Thief
Last we saw our hero - beneath the dark starlight
Searching for a clue - out on Red Lake at night
To catch a thief red-handed - in the commission of the crime
Murder, larceny - actus reus on his mind
Footprints at the window
Bloodstains on the floor
The flatfoots with their badges
Never looked behind the door
The Red Lake Thief has got away
With some baubles and a gun
But our gumshoe in his derby hat
Has got him on the run
With Lacy full in tow
And a pistol by his side
Chasing down the the Thief in Red
Never taken for a ride
His girl Lacy - with the perky fulsome chest
Always finds the final clue - hidden underneath the desk
No one else can seem to see - what is plainly in her sight
A quick kiss on the cheek - and our hero's out of sight
The third act is hard to follow
There's a twist in the plot
At the turn the bad guys squirm
Feels the water hot
The Red Lake Thief has got away
With some baubles and a gun
But our gumshoe in his derby hat
Has got him on the run
With Lacy full in tow
And a pistol by his side
Chasing down the the Thief in Red
Never taken for a ride
A fast chase in unmarked cars squealing 'round the turns
A shoot in a rail yard with all the passing trains
Justice served with a hangman's noose - or a maybe a 45
Our hero and his Lacy gal - always come out alive
The Red Lake Thief has won't get away
With some baubles and a gun
Our gumshoe in his derby hat
Has got him on the run
With Lacy full in tow
And a pistol by his side
Chasing down the the Thief in Red

Re: Red Thief
My Uncle Tony was feelin' real bad
The doctors all knew what my uncle had
He needed a transplant, but he was way down on the list.
But my Uncle Tony he's up to his eyes
With friends who have friends who know guys who know guys
And they know who to call when you've got a problem like this.
Call up the red thief, tell him your blood type
Give him a list of whatever you need
Call up the red thief, call up the red thief
[ last time: on your cell or on skype ]
'Cause this is your life - this isn't greed
For troubles this simple and small
Give the red thief a call.
This slimeball named Gary, he went to Thailand
Intending to have him some sex with some children
But Gary had traveled to Bangkok at just the wrong time.
The red thief was waiting outside his hotel
They got in a taxi but things didn't go well -
You could say it was an open and shut kinda crime.
(instrumental chorus)
My Uncle Tony is doing much better
His scars have healed up and he's got his new liver
So if you ever need this kind of help, he knows a guy...

Re: Red Thief
Red Thief - dont give up on me
a child grew up and mailed it up
and I knew it had to be
Rarely - the proof is in your eyes
Post and Time have set him up
yet I know its all a lie
Chorus
Red Thief 2x
Barely - it might be on the mend
you've knot it all in a big red bow
but I know it doesn't bend
Clearly - tried just signalling
I called up all my saviors
but they failed me in the end
Bridge
Why does all seem upside down, twisted round, to me?
All I've earned is taken down -given way for free.
Red Thief - a child of your mind
called up all those stale leanings
and you took them hook and line
Rarely - his smile is not designed
he said it all when his prompter's up
but they know its all a lie.
a child grew up and mailed it up
and I knew it had to be
Rarely - the proof is in your eyes
Post and Time have set him up
