I really appreciate all the good reviews I've gotten (for Ants (Invisible)), thanks everyone. I'm amused that everyone is pointing to it as a harkening back to the 60's or some other bygone era, because that wasn't my intention at all. I do tend to do that a lot, but this time I wasn't doing that. I guess it just came out that way inadvertently.
Bolio mentioned The Association, and I can really hear that too, way more than the Beach Boys. But both comparisons are immensely flattering. Anyway, now I can't hear the song without thinking it sounds like the Association.
Thanks all!

I don't think I replied to this...Niveous wrote:I wish HInc would've used his regular voice. But I guess he wanted to set a tone, kind of an angry version of Moby's "we are all made of stars".
The song was really based around the vocoded voice (and the loops, obviously), and it wouldn't be the same song without it!
Funny, when I was working out the lyrics for this song, waamos was an inspiration for the sound I was hoping for. It kept creeping into my mind while I was working on it. But I was attempting to not copy/rip off the song. Did I succeed? Anyway, good job on sniffing out the inspiration.

Ants (invisible) - The tinkering sounds of the piano combined with the over-loaded drums and harmonies, especially that vocal chord that leads into the second verse are uber cool and the tune is reminiscent of The Stone Roses merged with 60's garage rock and my favouite of the fight.
The Daughters of Zelophehad - The pseudo noodling wearing jazz clothing does not resemble much in the way for the title, so I skipped it.
Dopant - The mix needs a little spreading out and the vocals sound uninspired with reaching pitches.
8LeggedOedipus - Reminds me of a trippier version of Ben Folds Five.
Heuristics Inc. - Did someone turn out the lights while I wasn't looking cuz the transition of innocuous dissonance is kind of cool if only for a little while. 8)
Johnny Cashpoint - Like a shrinking violent wallflower coming into their own. 8)
Kurt Pistov and the Ryan Wells Trio - Sort of a white boy funk band getting the kinks out but meaning it in a way that hit me like a foam shit house.
Leaf - Sounds like an early Dave Mustane band thrashing about madly in the front of a bunch of wedges rocking the universe and for one night doesn't get better, especially with that modal shift at the end..... so metal.
Manhattan Glutton - I like the chorus and the inverse nature of it mixed with the broken down verse at the end, but kind of never gives me any solid reason for the title.
Pileus - There is something kind of dark and ominous about this, but would have been funnier if it were even more tongue and cheek and the production was better.
Sausage Boy - I think this would have been cooler if the lo-fi thing came into something more hi-fi because the message gets lost in the noise floor.
Sleazy D Collective - The cheese quotient gets interestingly offset with the personality-filled vocal and leaves me with the feeling like I'm watching a community musical piece performed by a seasoned actor that could do with a little more work in the recording department.
Spy Vs. Pie - When the crazy low-end dissonant chording kicks I'm hooked and it just didn't let go after that. 8)
WayPastFrown - The timing and pitchiness kind of hurt this in a big way for a chance at the title and what's with the clapping?
1) Ants (Invisible)
2) Spy Vs. Pie
3) Johnny Cashpoint
4) Heuristics Inc.

Cool fight!
I voted for Jim's Ants, but I also really liked Bill's track, which I listened to while watching this [flash]. My head still feels kinda funny.
