Glenn, you never cease to amaze. I can't wait to get home and figure out how how this one connects to Leaf's. Please tell me it took like a thousand takes to get those harmonies that perfect. Or tell me you used an auto-tuner. Or else I will have to be giving my stubborn vocal cords a good talking to.

Hehehe. Here is what happened.Jim of Seattle wrote:Glenn, you never cease to amaze. I can't wait to get home and figure out how how this one connects to Leaf's. 1. The writing and recording of this song took roughly 30-45 minutes.
2. I recorded the acoustic guitar first to a metronome
3. I laid down the vocal parts without the use of any tricks, gimmicks, or auto-tuner.
There was a point around 1992 when I only played keyboards, and I had no musical instruments accessible to me at the time, It was driving me crazy. So I decided to write some songs by doing acapella harmonies only (with a lead vocal). Those early compositions sound terrible, but it helped me to get better at doing this sort of recording.
I actually didn't think the harmonied had turned out all that great, so thanks for the compliments, and I can also send you a version of how I had it lining up to the rest of this.
ROCK!

There is no maximum number of slots. You're in, TSI, very good to have you aboard! Don't expect to get your turn for a few months, though, as there are now 17 participants in all.

OK, "Failure and Regret" has been added to the complete SFO opus. Glenn, the connection to Leaf's was obvious once I listened to them together. I added some reverb to yours to make it match with the rest of the piece. Also compressed it a tiny bit. Hope that was OK. I really love this one, even though it only took you half an hour.
Man, loading this thing into Cool Edit and saving it and then posting to my web site is going to become an inconveniently long process before too long. By May it'll take hours. Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can make the process quicker, once the file gets gigantic?

Yeah, compress away. That's fineJim of Seattle wrote:OK, "Failure and Regret" has been added to the complete SFO opus. Glenn, the connection to Leaf's was obvious once I listened to them together. I really did mean to put more time into the entry, but it turned out to be more of a hectic week than I thought it was going to be. At any rate, I am glad you liked the result. I thought it sounded ok at first, but on repeat listens I wasn't sure about some of the harmonies. I am glad you disagree with me on that.
ROCK!

parse it out into 4-5 minute chunks. each time you get to about 5 minutes, save it out and create a new one. then create an m3u stream of the parsed files (like we do with the radio shows). it's not like you don't have natural breaks between the parts. this way, you'll only have to keep one session as the "active" session.Jim of Seattle wrote:OK, "Failure and Regret" has been added to the complete SFO opus. Well, I'm having way too much fun pasting it together, for one. Plus we've been getting great comments on the thing as a whole, and given the crappy reviews the songs sometimes get, we need all the positive vibes we can muster. The Sober Irishman wrote:How about not posting it til it's done? I mean, if people really want to hear it at every step, they can paste it together themselves. Maybe this has already been discussed.

not to mention... for those people who will be taking a turn at some point in the future, and haven't heard all the individual pieces the first time around, this seems a good way to digest the "story so far" so to speak, all at once, before adding to it.Jim of Seattle wrote:Plus we've been getting great comments on the thing as a whole, and given the crappy reviews the songs sometimes get, we need all the positive vibes we can muster. The Sober Irishman wrote:How about not posting it til it's done?

The latest wonderful SFO entry was added extremely easily. Terrific segue. HOWEVER.... my ISP refuses to let on onto my site, so I can't ftp the latest story so far. Hopefully tomorrow.

Was that before or after you dissed CCS in the 1000 words fight and claimed to 'not feeling it' in your early review?Southwest_Statistic wrote:I want in... I want in... Awwwwww... I should have spoken up sooner.

Abecedarian and Southwest Statistic, you are both add to the list. Now 19 strong.
Still trying to get my ISP to play ball. Grrr....
I've been out of town this week, so I haven't added the latest entry in yet, or even heard it. I just got back. Stay tuned.

Forgive me, but "Not Feeling It" was never intended as a 'Diss' to anyone I said it to. I agree that it is one of the best SFO songs this effort has been blessed with so far. It was also one of the better songs in the '1000 Words' fight and I like it alot.tonetripper wrote:Was that before or after you dissed CCS in the 1000 words fight and claimed to 'not feeling it' in your early review?Southwest_Statistic wrote:I want in... I'm back.

Alrighty! Back in business...
The latest SFO complete is up. Last person who submitted, if I didn't merge it in the way you had hoped, let me know and I'll fix.
