Nur Ein XI
The spring hasn't arrived yet but thanks to climate change, seasons don't matter! It's time to start preparations for the Nur Ein.
I'm starting a little earlier this year because I'm excited for this. I'm back in full for this year's competition (Thanks Jon Eric for your help last year) and this year is the 10th anniversary of the first Nur Ein back in 2006.
Welcome to Nur Ein XI!
The Nur Ein is a 8 round song competition. In each round, the participants are given a song title and a mandatory challenge and are given a week in which to finish that song. Then this year's group of Nur Ein Judges (TBA) will listen to the songs and rate them from best to worst. Each round whittles down the field until we are left with only 1 competitor. Creativity x Skill x Time Management = Nur Ein!
This year's Nur Ein will start on Monday, April 11th with Round Zero. Round Zero is open to all who wish to take on the Nur Ein. The participants will have until Monday April 18th at 12:01AM (Eastern Daylight Time) to create a song from the title and complete the challenge. When a competitor completes a song, it is to be e-mailed to nurein.sidefight which is a gmail address. The songs will then be posted at the Nur Ein website (http://nurein.songlander.com) and the next title and challenge will be announced at the same time. The Judges will have the next two days to listen to the songs and make their decisions and then the judges will cut down the field to 25 with an announcement at some point on the evening of the 19th.
Here's the schedule:
(Obviously, this is subject to change if something catastrophic happens, or if we don't get 25 bands in Round 0)
Round 0:
April 11-17
Judging April 18-19
<X> bands, <X-25> eliminations
Round 1:
April 18-24
Judging April 25-26
25 bands, 5 eliminations
Judges favorite gets immunity
Round 2:
April 25-May 1
Judging May 2-8
20 bands, 4 eliminations
Judges favorite gets immunity
Round 3:
May 2-8 (the guest round!)
Judging May 9-10
16 bands, 4 eliminations
Judges favorite gets immunity
Round 4:
May 9-15
Judging May 16-17
12 bands, 4 eliminations
Round 5:
May 16-22
Judging May 23-24
8 bands, 3 eliminations
Round 6:
May 23-29
Judging May 30-31
5 bands, 3 eliminations
Final Round:
May 30-June 5
Voting June 6-7
2 bands, 1 elimination
The final round is a battle between the two remaining competitors with the votes of the eliminated competitors and the Nur Ein Jury will choosing the winner (one vote per "act," whether you're a band or a solo competitor; if you're a duo, trio, quartet, quintet, or more, you'll need to discuss internally how to allocate that one vote).
The game is on. Nur Ein!!!!!!!!!!!
Also I just started a Nur Ein facebook page that I will be manning. It's got a whole lot of nothing on it right now other than the logo, but as we get closer to the first round, I'll be posting up some stuff looking back on the last decade of this competition and all the amazing music it has produced.
I started this up early so people can get prepared, judges can get chosen, website logistics, all that good stuff.
Glad to be back. It feels like home. Nur Ein!

Re: Nur Ein XI
This could be our year! (Then again, we might go out again on Round 1, who knows!)
Boffo Yux Dudes are in.
I'm also looking for promos and IDs from people in NE XI for the Listening Party bumps.
I should have enough time on Monday nights to make this happen if enough people want to hear things and have a live chat at the same time.
I also seem to have straightened out the audio and video by dumping ustream and moving to my YouTube channel. Worked fine for ST11.2 & 4 this year.
Thanks to Paco, we have a cool theme song.

Re: Nur Ein XI
After two years judging, I'd like to throw my hat back into the ring this year. However, I've got a six-month-old in the house and my wife and I have work schedules that don't overlap, so I may miss a deadline. Oh, and we're moving sometime in the middle there.
Still gonna try it!

The more limitations, the more interesting the music(al creation process) and results are, JonEric
From a wholly fanboy side of things, of course.
Also, let someone else have a chance to complain about my vocal lack-of-style, heh.
Belated congrats on the sprog, btw, been a little wrapped up in my own space to be too terribly social of non-recent late.

That just means you should use Nur Ein to start the BLT sensitive GuyNGuitar phase like Mark Walberg at the end of Rock Star. Or the BLT self indulgent Jazz phase like Sting or Brian SetzerBilly's Little Trip wrote:I can't seem to music anymore. I lost my mojo. Good luck to all. I'll be listening.

Good panel of judges. I know first rounds have many songs to judge. Please comment, tho. I really appreciate it. Even if it's just "+ chorus lyrics, - everything else"

As for me, I'll try to comment on all the entries for each round. I know the comments are part of the fun with the Ein, and as a past contestant I always anticipated them eagerly. Won't promise anything though.iVeg wrote:Good panel of judges. I know first rounds have many songs to judge. Please comment, tho. I really appreciate it.
