OctoFest '05
Well, you have heard the last of Octothorpe for a bit. Got to the studio to clean up today and someone had already done it for me. Left the computer, anyway, so we still have all our old source, but it's gonna take a while to retool...

They left the computer? Weird. All I know is that that blows monstrous chunks Spud. And then they wonder why there is murder in the world. What actually walked? Guitars? Cuz if that's the case there is almost nothing worse in the world than losing stuff like that. I don't know what I'd do if someone stole my axes. Replace them I guess, but there is so much personal attachment to them that replacing them never really replaces them. Really sorry to hear that Spud. I really hate bad guys. And I think the thing that ticks me off the most about them is that they have, obviously, no consideration for art or artists. Why don't they rip off banks or something. Did you have insurance?
I'm with Jack on this one. If I can be of help I will. Fundraiser sounds good! Really sorry to hear that. Happened to me once. Luckily I got my bass back lost my amp, but there really would be no replacing my 71 precision. Nothing would ire the beast more than to lose something as personally valuable as that. That really, REALLY sucks. Maybe we should collectively have a SF lynch mob. Maybe post what walked and we can all keep an eye out on Ebay or something. Check the pawn shops too. Jeez must be a west coast thing. Leaf, now #. What's the world coming to. Shitty dude. Plain shitty. The pain is felt here my man.

Man all those cool keyboards...and that drum kit?? I hope they left the toasters....
my condonlences as well Spud... I'm sure Octothorpe will rise from the ashes stronger, weirder and with even cooler tones... I'm bummed for you though... I've had a band van broken into and I personally lost an $800 uninsured drum...band lost amps, guitars, you name it. It's a terrible feeling.... if I can help, I shall.

Filing insurance claims now. We should be okay as far as funds go, if all goes well. Some of that stuff is gonna be hard to replace, and maybe that's not the way to go, anyway. The horn has to be replaced for sure, but it's worth looking at everything else and getting something a little more geared to how we record and perform rather than just whatever I've collected over the years.
For those of you who want to help by watching ebay, craig's list, whatever, here's what was taken, to the best I can figure:
Micro Moog with custom black ribbed rubber end panels
Casio CT670 keyboard with mist of black spray paint on keys
Nord Lead painted black over original red case
Sequential MULTITRAK synth missing power supply (I have it)
PAIA Stringz n' Thingz keyboard missing keyboard cover part of case (I have it)
Casio Digi-horn DH100
Norma untunable electric guitar
Rogue metalic charcoal fretless bass with flatwound strings
Behringer MX1604A Mixer
Marshall MXL63S condensor mic with stand and pop screen
Digitech Vocal 300 vocal effects processor missing power supply (you guessed it)
Yamaha DD-55 drum machine with chip on corner of case
Roland CUBE100 keyboard amp, possibly with duct tape along lower front edge
Peavey Mark 1 6-channel mixer with built in spring-reverb.
AKG D60S Microphone
Various xlr and 1/4" cables
What they left was Amy's digital piano (thank god! - otherwise I would be sleeping on the couch), the drum set, the computer, the accordion, and the toasters. Actually, they left a lot of stuff, including a tv and vcr, ddr pads, refrigerator, power tools, etc. However, I have removed everything of value from the studio at this point, in case they remember what they left behind.
Thanks for your concern. However, I think we will be OK in the long run.

This is sad news. I had an idea - I dunno if people are up for this but I think it would be cool ....
Octofest! A free virtual festival ... all people who want to record something to show how much we like Octothorpe - it can be a new song, an octothorpe cover, an old song rerecorded or remixed, a bit of poetry, or a recorded message of support. Anything really, as long as it's exclusive. We set a date in a week or two, and on that day I put up a little website in the form of a festival where people can download the stuff for a day or two. Maybe Bortwein could design a logo, let's all get involved.
Unless the 'thorpe are massively opposed, I would also set up a paypal account where people could if they wanted to, make a donation, but no obligation!
So what do people think? I'm well up for sorting this out. I'd much prefer people to host the songs on their own website but if people want to do something and really can't afford their own webspace for deep-streaming then I am sure we can sort something out ....

The donation part is entirely unnecessary. Buy <a href="http://www.cafepress.com/mightyocto">a shirt</a> or <a href="http://www.cdbaby.com/found?allsearch=octothorpe">a cd</a> if you've got a few extra bucks.
The rest is all good. Bring it on.

Very good! Octo'Fest '05 is greenlighting. fair enough on the 'donation' front - I'll just link from the 'merchandise tent' to the t-shirt / cd info ...
So who's up for this? Anyone is welcome to submit something. Come on, it's a great cause - let's obliterate the negativity of this crime with a little 'Yay Octothorpe' positivity!
-I have a clear idea of how this is going to work ... but suggestions are always welcome!

Set it up, J$. I'm there.
Spud, I hate hearing when crap like that happens to good people. And you're definitely one of the good ones. I'll keep my eye on eBay. That's such a unique set of items, they should be relatively easy to catch if try unload them on eBay.

Yeah, weird...the last time I got robbed they took my guitars, amps, harmonica etc...but left my computer, tv, vcr, stereo, etc... They even took my cable modem's power supply which is pretty much propreitory to the unit. (That was hard to explain to the cable company when trying to obtain a new one... even when the guy got there he was thinking he had to replace the whole thing and not just the power supply)Spud wrote: What they left was Amy's digital piano , the drum set, the computer, and the toasters. Spud, I've been through this sort of thing three times...but even adding up all three times I still didn't lose as much equipment as you have. I certainly never lossed as much endeared electronics either. My heart goes out to you. I sinserely hope you get good on the insurance check.
SUCK.
I am now insured myself and I highly recomend it. Mainly because once you are insured, nobody will rob you.

Rabid - this is weird, but it seems that they DID take the rock. Blue's rock, in fact. That is so bizarre that I am going back to look for it today. I mean really.
Ken - you can help out by recommending some options for a basic guitar for the studio. That Norma was pretty useless, anyway.
Also - list above has been updated a little - second mixer identified.
