Free hosting

Post by toddlans »

Does anybody know of a good free hosting site that i could use for awhile until i find what I want to use permantly? Right now I have no need for anything i'd have to pay for i just want to stick a few things up and have some sort of hosting. Somebody mentioned that Ourmedia one in another thread, but i tried it and it sucks it takes forever for your files to get posted and i don't like the layout and not being able to make my own customizable page. Here's what i'm looking for basically.

1. At least 50mb storage, but the more the better.
2. No restrictions on content (not that i'll be putting crazy porn up or anything i just don't want to feel limited to what i say or put on there.
3. somewhat fast (or the fastest i can get for "free" actually
4. Pluses though they aren't important would be a higher limit on monthly bandwidth, anything like premade forum or guestbook cgi's, and a short domain name.

I've been out of the game for awhile and haven't tried making any kind of webpage for a long time, and I've having trouble finding a decent free host. Eventually I'll get a good one, but for now i don't want to pay for one really cuz its not that important.

http://ourmedia.org - new, free media hosting with no size or bandwidth restrictions. This is for your actual media files. I don't believe they provide any server applications or web hosting. You can get a web host elsewhere easily, but this solves the storage and bandwidth issue for you.

Edit: They give you a blog! That works :)

thanks, thats what i'm trying to use right now, but it kind of sucks it takes forever to get something posted and seems pretty slow. i didn't think of just using it as storage and using another service for the page. i guess i wasn't thinking. maybe i'll try that then till i find something a little better. I just wish it didn't take so long for it to get posted on the site.

It is only in Alpha, so hopefully they'll deal with some performance issues if that's the case. Upload wasn't slow for me, but the page update may be another thing. I think for video folks there's a stronger argument, as you know how big those files get and the bandwidth for streams is huge.
