Crossword Puzzles
As someone (I think Glenn) mentioned in the livechat during my SF Live set on the first night, I also make crossword puzzles. I post a new one each weekday at https://crosshare.org/sommersmith. There you can peruse old puzzles and/or hit the "Follow" button to get notified by email about new ones. They're usually mini 4x4 or 5x5, with larger ones usually on Fridays and, starting recently, a full-size 15x15 every two weeks. As of right now I've posted 41 puzzles.
Today's puzzle may especially interest some of you, as may this one from a while ago. Otherwise I try to keep things pretty generalist, though there's a fair amount of music references.
I've found that constructing crosswords is a fun complement to songwriting; it scratches similar creative itches in different ways. Others seem to agree: crumpart has posted one and frankie big face has posted a bunch. Crosshare is free and open-source and the puzzle constructor is pretty user-friendly. Maybe you should try making a puzzle!

Even though I never made a Crosshare account (and thus never left comments), I was doing all of the Sommersmith puzzles consistently and compulsively, and now I miss them. I hope this is just a temporary lull.

Re: Crossword Puzzles
That is super rad! He mentioned it on Facebook. And owl helped test it out for him too, I think she said. Congrats Micah! It was a fun puzzle. Too bad there was no mention of Song Fight in it though.

Re: Crossword Puzzles
Thanks everybody! It's been really cool to see my puzzle published and the (surprisingly positive!) reaction to it.

Yes, owl heroically test solves all my big puzzles and tells me which of my ideas are terrible. This puzzle's clues were also edited pretty heavily by the LA Times editor, though many of my favorites made it through intact. Sadly, Song Fight is probably too niche a reference for a national puzzle, but who knows, maybe I'll manage to slip it in someday.
