Nur Ein XIX Round Six "Glass"

There were lots of ways to tie "glass" to a Minecraft song. I decided to ignore all the logical possibilities & lean into the most cringe one I was able to think of. It gave me video ideas that made me laugh, and that's basically why. I plan to do a video in which the girl is building all these amazing glass structures and you see them with her back turned to you. And of course the guy is gushing over her "glass" when well...you get it.

Verses in 4/4 time signature and the choruses in 3/4.

(Verse 1)
New girl just moved in next door
She's been craftin' all night
With the blast furnace turned up
Digging up sand by the torch light

When morning came I could not believe
This girl just had so much glass
Oh my god it brought me to my knees
Most I've seen since Sunday mass

(Chorus)
Her build was fully loaded
I'm pane-fully aware
I desire for dat glass
I had to stop & stare
Cause that girl has glass
That girl has glass

(Verse 2)
It was clear to me she was a glazier
Got the biggest tank in town
So much glass in the greenhouse
Assets couldn't help butt stand out!

My simple plan was transparent
I need to tip that glass like a beaker
Show appreciation to her glass mansion
Sorry, didn't mean to be a creeper

(Chorus)
Her build was fully loaded
I'm pane-fully aware
I desire for dat glass
I had to stop & stare
Cause that girl has glass
That girl has glass

(Bridge)
She's got glass for days
She's Glasstonishing
Thick and double pane
Give me some of that glass

(Chorus)
Her build was fully loaded
I'm pane-fully aware
I desire for dat glass
I had to stop & stare
Cause that girl has glass
That girl has glass

Balance Lost

Notes:
I always want listeners to take their own interpretation from my lyrics so I'm a little reticent to provide my own meaning in case it prevents people from hearing it in their own way, however for the purposes of Nur Ein I will describe my intentions.

This song is meant to be about an ageing superstar and observing how they grapple with not being as all-conquering as they once were, partly by recognising that that level of success might actually be a little unhealthy for a person. The narrator's perspective is partly commiserating with the subject, but also noting how seeing another person's gradual decline from outside helps us come to terms with the fact that we're all getting older. There are various glass metaphors to illustrate these points throughout.

I wouldn't normally make such a long song for Nur Ein, and I'm aware that the intro is quite long before any singing arrives. I decided it would be okay to use this opportunity to try something more progressive that wholeheartedly embraces the challenge, and also since the judges only have 5 official entries to listen to a slightly longer running time would be acceptable. I hope you feel the same way, and apologies for being too indulgent if not!

Lyrics:
Intro
(Time signature: 16/16, 15/16, 14/16, 13/16, 12/16, 11/16, 10/16, 9/16, 8/16, 7/16, 6/16, 5/16, 4/16, 3/16, 2/16, 1/16)

(Time signature: 5/4)
Coming up from the underground
Now your industry is ablaze
Agitate, taking by surprise
Everything I want
Daylight raid

(Time signature: 4/4)
Looking back in the day
It'll never be the same
In so many ways
You fight against the change
It's hard to believe
The difference between now and then
When you're up on a peak
You're running out of oxygen

(Time signature: 6/8)
Stare at the screen and I'm on the other side
Haunting the two-way glass
Secrets you'll never hide
Now you're not as strong as you look
Brittle from the earthquake as it shook

(Time signature: 15/16)
In my youth
I thought I knew the sea
Now this fading captain's aiding me
You could ride the storm
But now the sea is calm
And what you thought were eggshells
Turned out to be shards of glass
Is your grip too strong?
The world was in your palm
You might have thought they loved you
But it seems the moment passed

(Time signature: 4/4)
Looking back in the day
It'll never be the same
In so many ways
You fight against the change
It's hard to believe
The difference between now and then
When you're up on a peak
You're running out of oxygen

Glass
by Brown Word and the Big Whine

[Horror has a face and you must make a friend of horror.]

Come and peer into this glass of mine
A thousand ages from the dawn of time
I can tell tales out of school
Can't tell what she'll show to you
You can hide your deepest heart
With just a look she'll take you all apart

[Horror and moral terror are your friends.
If they are not, then they are enemies to be feared.]

Hey Joe Public
Come and get your fortune told
The glass will tell you what's to be
Is this an act? Or some unholy pact
With the devil himself?
Ain't you just a a little scared to see?

[Horror...]

There's a reason everybody
cannot see the light
through the chasm between death and life
There's a reason...

Fingertips on the
windowsill of time itself
An instant trip to the ends of Hell
A power too great to simply contain
Behold the glass!
And blow your mind or go insane

[You have to have men who are moral,
who are able to utilize
their primordial instincts to kill
Without judgment...]

Who do we really see?
Who exactly can we be?
And what abyss is staring back at thee?
No need to lie
With naked glass
Between us and all that has come to pass

[Because it's judgment that defeats us.]

3/4, 4/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, ?, 4/4, 3/4

quiet please
we don't want to
upset our guest
you see, it's been quite a trauma

yes please thank you
turning the lights down
would be best

she's coming to
she made it through
the anesthesia

Don't laugh
don't cough
don't tap on the glass
don't tap on the glass
don't bitch
don't moan
show a little class
don't tap on the glass

Human beings,
so exotic
Rumor has it they
Can only be found in one place
In the cosmos

i wanna be a good friend
to my new pet
i read all about her on
the internet
they like it when you
scratch them in the eye...
that's what I read!

and i need them to like me too
so be careful what you say and do
when you come around
they'll be safe inside the cage

but please
don't laugh
don't cough
don't tap on the glass
don't bitch
don't moan
show a little class
don't tap on the glass
don't tap on the glass

Well we were almost done with this one when we found out we didn't make the last round, anyway, who can resist a shifting time signature challenge?? Not us in The Friends. So anyway, here's our shadow submission-

The Friends
"Glass"

Watching everyday

I’ve been looking for my cue

Does he always have to act this way?

Is this all he’s gonna do?

Scoping out and sizing

The air is thick with fright

I hear comparisons the thief of joy

It’s getting hard for me to choose

But in this view…

Hey, believe me, I'd jump right through
find out if I'm the same as you
And if I felt you smooth as glass....

Talking on a run

Try to catch him in the act

Scared the villains gonna get away

Before he slices me in two

Ornamental and sad

With chin down behind my back

Joy is fleeting yeah that’s what they say

Just never happy to see you

But in this view

Hey, believe me, I'd jump right through
find out if I'm the same as you
So we watch and we wait too
which one of us keeps in view
I know you see me, gazing past, smooth as glass
hey, believe me, I'm same as you

Verse One
You come on like glass
When you’re really made of granite
You’re holding back your soul
You’re giving up control
You come on like glass
And it’s really pretty tragic
Because you’re not staking out your claim
Your world is your domain
Your syntax
Is a sin tax
Circumlocuting ‘round the world
Your word game
Is absurd game
Qualifying every word

Verse Two
You come on like glass
When you’re a Faraday container
And you can use your powers for good or ill
No one knows until
You spring your last trap
It’s a strategy forever
Pretending what you think you want you have
That unremarkable ain't bad
Enough of the excuses
There’s no use in
Taking sides
I will be
Where you want me
If you want to take that ride

Bridge
You came from windy beaches
On the cusp of sea and land
You went into the fire
Inspired
I see you’re full of something
Your lid flipped to get it out
You shattered
When it mattered
Cut me out

Verse Three
Your syntax
Is a sin tax
Circumlocuting ‘round the world
Your word game
Is absurd game
Qualifying every word
Enough of the excuses
There’s no use in
Taking sides
I will be
Where you want me
If you want to take that ride

Glass
by glennny

Intro 4/4

Verse One 20/8 (oscillating 11/8 & 9/8)
Take it in stride
If you can manage
Your lack of fear
Is an advantage
(We) let it fade away
(Know this) all of it
(but we) serendipity
(ignore) full of shit
Weighing you down
All of your baggage

Pre-Chorus 5/4
Cruelly coded
Duly noted

Chorus 4/4
You’re a figurine made of glass
(with other abilities)
Beautiful, but never made to last
(respect the fragility)

Verse Two 20/8 (oscillating 11/8 & 9/8)
Losing your mind
Trapped in your body
What can you find
The repair was shoddy
(We) have the impetus
(Know this) some of it
(but we) sensitivity
(ignore) hypocrite
Hold on my dear
The seas can get choppy

Pre-Chorus 5/4
Cruelly coded
Duly noted

Chorus 4/4
You’re a figurine made of glass
(with other abilities)
Beautiful, but never made to last
(respect the fragility)

Bridge 6/8
You have the wherewithal to keep things going
Whom so ever might get in your way
Your whereabouts might be padded package
With whatsoever you can manage to pay

Solo ⅞

Instrumental interlude 20/8 (oscillating 11/8 & 9/8)

Double Chorus 4/4
You’re a figurine made of glass
(with other abilities)
Beautiful, but never made to last
(respect the fragility)
You might as well be made of glass
(with shattered humility)
Beautiful, but broken so fast
(annoying futility)
