Re: Song Fight! Live 2024 Mountains and Melodies
I watched at least one song from everyone and you all did great! FYI, the vocals could be a bit louder.
Also, it was funny and weird to hear Octothorpe doing "What We Need More of is Science", since it uses exactly the same lyrics as the brody song we did for the same fight (they were Fluffy's lyrics and up for grabs if I remember correctly). Ours is a much different arrangement. But it was a cool pound polka!

Re: Song Fight! Live 2024 Mountains and Melodies
Unfortunately there was only so much that could be done about the individual levels, as the audio was recorded on a mic next to the camera at the top of the room. There was no way to tap into a mixing board or the like.
And we actually talked a bit about the More Science thing before we played it, but I suspect the banter didn't make it through intelligibly.

I did hear it! Thanks for mentioning the brody version! I love our version and still play it pretty often. So thanks again for the lyrics.

Re: Song Fight! Live 2024 Mountains and Melodies
Ah yes, the live part is what Song Fight! Live! had been missing for the past few years. Such a good time and I'm glad everything worked out. Thanks especially to Leah for being such an amazing organizer and keeping everything running smoothly (or as smoothly as is possible with such a cat-herding experience), and to the Buntport for so graciously hosting us. And the sound guys Kirk and John sure had their work cut out for them and they are, I think, the best sound technicians we've ever had at a show, at least among the ones I came to.
For folks who performed in the live fight, remember that there is no automatic submission of your performance. If you want to get your audio from the stream capture and don't know how to grab it from YouTube, I'm happy to parse out your audio for you, although keep in mind that I'm still traveling and won't be getting home until late Tuesday night, and I'll be away from my laptop most of Monday. So the sooner you get your requests in, the better.

Thank you for such generous compliments! I’m thrilled that you enjoyed it and noticed all the countless details and meticulous planning that went into this event <3fluffy wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2024 10:57 pmAh yes, the live part is what Song Fight! It felt like a success and we had a blast, but knowing so many other attendees felt the same seals the deal on a winning weekend. Thanks y’all!
Now we just need someone to commit to 2025 and keep it going!

Re: Song Fight! Live 2024 Mountains and Melodies
Hello my lovely friends. Thanks for a terrific Song Fight! Live. It's interesting to consider that years ago we would head out to SFL looking for a good time of one sort, and now we head out looking for a good time of an entirely different sort.
Such a please playing with and listening to all of you, reconnecting in person-- it doesn't really matter how long it's been, it feels like I saw you yesterday. Thanks especially to those who drove hours and hours if not multiple days to join us.
Thanks in laser-particularity to Leah who worked her ass off to make this happen, the Buntport for being out of town and trusting people Leah vouched for, Kirk for holy crap all that equipment, Jeff the amazing, and the Ministry of Impressively Small Playthings.
I have added a bunch of pictures to fluffy's archive, please do go check them out, they are a great memory.
See you next year,
JB

Side note, I added "chapter codes" for the opening remarks, artist intros, sets, and closing remarks, for the night 1 live stream. I plan to do that for night 2 at some point also.

Sure, happy to help, thanks again to you for managing the live stream, it looks and sounds great. Probably the best one we've ever had? I'll let you know if I start doing that for night 2 so we don't both do it at once.

Re: Song Fight! Live 2024 Mountains and Melodies
We made it home last night in time to get our salads for dinner and extra dog slobbers before bedtime. It really wasn't a terrible drive although it does feel like a long weekend. But well worth it. I loved seeing some folks again (especially our lovely hosts) and meeting so many new people. We had a great time. Thankyou to everyone!
A special thanks to our hosts and their friends for putting this thing on. (Oh and G for giving me a new band name for at least one week. Thank them for me if you get the chance.) Here's to next year, somewhere.

Yes thank you from the virtual audience for the live stream! It looked and sounded great. I watched both nights.
Also, well done everyone!! Nice to see the tradition live on in such a successful way!

Re: Song Fight! Live 2024 Mountains and Melodies
my punishment for giving fluffy shit on the boards:
Hello my friends. I tested positive for COVID this evening. Symptoms started this morning.
Dorie has no symptoms, don't know about Hugo yet. We tested negative before we flew out to Denver.
The CDC says this strain is contagious for 1-2 days before onset of symptoms, so that puts many of you in the window.
Hope I'm the only one (of course), so far the symptoms are bad-cold-ish.

Re: Song Fight! Live 2024 Mountains and Melodies
I'm sorry you got COVID.
Just a reminder to everyone that the pandemic is still ongoing and everyone has to do their duty to stop the spread. Mask in public spaces, test on days when you expect to be unmasked in the presence of others. Tests aren't 100% accurate but they're sure a lot better than the 0% you get from not testing, and they're a really good indicator as to whether you're contagious or not even if you're asymptomatic (or not yet symptomatic).

Oh JB, I'm so sorry! I tested on Sunday because I had a headache and sort of sore throat, but I was negative. I'll test again now. I hope it's not too bad for you.

Now I think of it. I did feel a bit seedy when I woke up this morning. Must be the covid.

Surely wasn't the approximately 30 beers and 5 glasses of wine you'd had the previous evening, no.Caravan Ray wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 10:28 pmNow I think of it. I did feel a bit seedy when I woke up this morning. Must be the covid.
Hoblit was exposed to that too. Hoblit, how are you feeling?
