Silver Birthday

Post by sleepysilverdoor »

Phlub feat. Sweeney Toad

In the first few years after Y2K
I heard about a site via KOMPRESSOR with a K
Where they give you a title and about 10 days
I said "count me in, that's a game I wanna play"
I showed it to my friends cause I thought it was cool
It was my favorite thing to do way back in high school
At first I was The Kraziez then The Boiler Room
Then I was Lockheed Symphony a time or two
And you'd better beleef that I was Queef McBeef
And the reviews were grave when I was Rossby Wave
And I wrote this song cause I'm happy to say
That it's SongFight's 25th birthday

It's a silver birthday
It's SongFight's silver birthday
It's a silver birthday
It's SongFight's silver birthday (silver birthday)

Then I got a little older and I got some more funds
So I bought a Tascam and got back in on the fun
Making music that genre-hopped all over the place
Emulating a guitar by pitch-shifting my bass
I managed to set a long entering streak
Didn't miss a single fight for 53 weeks
And I used to be Phlebia before I was Phlub
Then I finally joined the winner's club
The instant fights, they elevated the art
I had a good time playing drums in spare parts
And can certainly say that I truly enjoyed
Playing with Melvin and Pete as a part of Asteroids
It's fun to play instruments, it's fun to sing
But the community here is the very best thing
I love collaborations, love to share the load
So now I'll pass off the mic to Mike Sweeney Toad

[Sweeney Toad]
Look-see look-see yo I’m back again
Phlub ain’t friend floodin’ bruh just brought one friend
Hit send on that email with the silver birthday subject line
If we don’t win the voting was rigged it would be such a crime
Who’s cooking’ up bangers? You know how Ian does
Throw your hands in the air but not like Elon Musk
From dusk till dawn we ball and slay it
Keep it hot and spicy like Salma Hayek
Feeding on the energy of Songfight community
We energy vampires haters hate to lose to me
Immunity to haters y’all can’t phase me
Call me Carly Rae or just call me maybe
Songfighter babies they always cry and whine
But I don’t mind I’ll change those diapers always find the time
25 years of internet can’t be wrong, right?
We are totally going to win this Songfight

You’d only know they were saints by the flames that lick their feet
Mark and Good King David on their crosses in defeat
What pillows do they dream on now? What made the painbirds sing?
Did they prevent their dissolution in a world of suffering?

And somewhere on the hill, a golden-haired son
Who never got to see the land that he came from
Let these little fat babies lead you this way
May you look over their low stone wall and carry on your way

A silver birthday, oh
A second place start
Imposters never lie about the contents of their heart
And if you ever have that word with god I hope she listens well
While the rest of us behind are walking backwards into hell

This world makes martyrs of people who only wanted to live
If a short life is taciturn then why so much to give?

I got a job and a car and my own sweet home
I played the bass in a band and I sang
Writing songs night and day, torturing my neighbours
And dreaming of being a star in Japan

Oh, what did I know
Thirty years ago?

When I think about these times it makes me smile
And I wish I could go back
Life was easy, only caring for myself
Riding on the freedom track

I still remember my Silver Birthday party
There were lots of friends and you were one of them
You became my wife, gave me kids and we built a house
Everything changed but I knew true love would stay

Oh, what did I know
Thirty years ago?

When I think about these times it makes me smile
And I wish I could go back
Life was easy, only caring for myself
Riding on the freedom track

Now, that you are gone I don't feel too bad
'Cause love for music is the truest love I've ever had

When I think about these times it makes me smile
And it seems that I am back
Life's easy again, only caring for myself
I'm riding on the freedom track

Doo doodee doo…

Silver Birthday - roymond

searching searching for silver
i was searching for silver and found gold

i was lost, not even lost and found
i could touch no ground, I could hear no sound
- within me
What you see is an extremity
a final plea, a need to be
- within you

Searching ...

Then as now I could not escape
It boxes in and it complicates
- Where am I
we can talk, we'll negotiate
The challenge now - how to navigate
- Who are we

searching ...
I was searching for silver...I found gold

** it's hard to express exactly what this place means to me. it's been my refuge. thank you all! **
