I have written three songs in the last hour. I think they're all terribly clever, but I'm very very tired and will likely throw them all out tomorrow morning.
If you don't want them, sometimes a fighter posts lyrics they've made but can't use, for anyone who might want to use them.

I don't think we've got a special 'donations' thread, and they don't belong in 'Ye Olde Archive', so if you like make a donations thread here in 'Discussions and Reviews'.

Not to speak for the fightmasters or anything, but I think the fightmasters' intent was that lyric "donations" should be posted in the prefight threads. I know that a couple things have been posted in the Lyric Archive thread, but then that gets confusing if nobody uses them... and the description of the lyric mart thread seems to indicate they don't want donations in there.

I wouldn't mind seeing the revival of the "Lyric Mart" thread, though... or if we want to keep donations in the prefight thread, maybe the songfight FAQ (not the messageboard FAQ above, but the one under Announcements - Song Fight - What is Song Fight?) could be updated to say that's where lyric donations ought to be put...

Hey Kapitano

I'm Minty's wife. Don't post much, though have used the PM function to full advantage.

Also, from what I hear from my husband about those three songs he trashed? You're all welcome ;).

speaking of lyrics, these are for the taking. many thanks to dante...

saint peter

dear saint peter
been climbing clouds all the day
some devil stole my wings away
dear saint peter
been stumbling blind in the dark
my halo lost in central park
dear saint peter
i cannot join you in the choir
the strings are broken on my lyre

i'm writing now from charon's ride
rowing fast to the other side
yes, i'm passing over

dear saint peter
in the city dis no one sleeps
they moan all night in coffins deep
dear saint peter
the people here are full of holes
the furies screech to maim their souls
dear saint peter
the deeper pits have many places
where i can hide from angel faces

i'm writing now from the frozen lake
cooling my skin in the devil's wake
yes, i have passed over

dear saint peter
it's lonely here among the damned
but i don't miss the promised land

pasty white man

Post by Battle Cry Creek »

Since I am a pasty white man the lyrics for this song just came to me. This will be my second entry so I appreciate any feedback. My first entry to be posted this week was "We are all made of strings" which for some reason made me thing about chemistry. Looking forward to hearing from all the songfighters!

You will hear this many times, but it is strongly discouraged that you submit for more than one fight. It's in the <a href="http://www.songfight.org/faq.html#can_i_enter">FAQ</a>. It's like, almost a rule. Most reviewers will only give you one review per week, and definitely won't vote for a double-poster.

You may be able to evade the harsh criticism if you post under a <a href="http://www.songfight.org/artistpage.php ... eudonym</a> or <a href="http://www.songfight.org/artistpage.php ... gs">two</a>. You've already announced you've written two songs, so you've kind of blown your cover. :P

Also, I still ahevn't figured why the hell this smiley :P says nevada. (??)

Oh, and likely in for Nothing Less than Everything. I have some new recording space and can make a ruckuss so this won't have to be a downtempo bossa tune.

Well I guess if anyone pays attention to the song titles they might realize that "we are all made of strings" and "pasty white man" can't come out on the same week...can't I say! Can't!
Better yet let's just point out the rules to one of the new guys cos he obviously didn't read the faq before posting...the following has been sarcasm and should not be read by anyone.

Oh, by the way, I didn't notice that you shouldn't post two songs in a week, and I was actually thinking about doing that when I realized that recording one song was enough...lucky me for getting chastised for doing something that I only considered doing because I didn't understand the rules. Oh by the way Battle Cry Creek was supposed to be three words.

Not its full advantage, as I have yet to receive a pm telling me how wonderful I am. Obviously lost in the virtual post :)

Welcome, anyway

Don't you have enough married female admirers?

And indeed, welcome Mrs Minty, to the site mp3s were invented for. Perhaps someday we shall hear a duet between you and your man? If not, there are plenty here who could do a collaboration.

Actually, you already did, if you listened to my "Our Love Violates Corporate Policy" submission. She's the one with the musical training. And the girl voice. Heh.

By the way, I'm in for "Die For Me", unless I can't get a guitar player in time. The lyrics fell today in the last hour, the chords get worked out tonight (I've already emailed myself a wav file of me quietly singing the melody so as to not bother coworkers) and hopefully I'll get it done and not hate it. Time will tell.

Posted too soon -- I'm not entering this week unless I get inspired anew.

See, I was hearing a specific sound in my head when I wrote "Die For Me" (below), but now that I'm trying to record it I realize I also had a specific SONG in my head, and the song is still stuck there. As a result, I can't find any kind of melody/rhythm for these lyrics that works, because nothing else is as tailor-fit as the song structure I was thinking of, and using that song structure would be blatant plagarism.

So, I'm not going to tell you who inspired it, in hopes that one of you can find a way to make it work without ripping anybody off. Heh. As for submitting something else this week, here's hoping I get inspired in the shower tomorrow morning...

- - -

"Die For Me"

They say true love's a calling, and I got the call
But our love ain't been looking very true at all
Lately I been thinking that our love ain't here to stay
You're drivin' me to drinkin' when you drive me away

Chorus:
Our wedding bed is empty when our kids are asleep
'Cuz you been staying out all night for over a week
Our wedding vow's been broken now so you can do your worst
(Oh) I'll die for you (baby) if you die for me first

(guitar or kazoo solo, depending on how well this turns out)

I thought that I was chosen on our wedding day
Until your feet got frozen and then you ran away
And now each night we shout until we're blue in the face
Since we always fight about it let me cut to the chase

Repeat Chorus

Oh no, I did another "sad bastard" song this week. "Die For Me" was written and recorded simultaneously, the totality of the process taking about 10 minutes just now. It's about a mountain. I might add piano though.

that, for the life of me, sounds like a hank william's sr. song. it's probably not the artist you were thinking of, now i'm going to have to write a song with those lyrics just to see if i can sing with a twang. i love hank williams sr.

not that i'll submit it, mind you, i'm not that cruel. and besides, i'm looking forward to the return of hope, oath and suspicion this week.
