Baseball versus Opera
Johnny Cashpoint (hopefully) pulled his song at the last minute but I don't think I can delete this post without trashing the entire thread ... sorry ...

Baseball vs. Opera Lyrics
by Ross Durand
Opera house - stadium
Backstage - dugout
Orchestra - organ
Full house - sell-out
Overture - anthem
Dim the lights - "Play ball"
The singers sing the first notes - the umpire makes the first call
Understudy - bullpen
Bad note - foul ball
Duet - double play
Modern staging - bad call
Aria - bases loaded
Bravo - score a run
Caviar - a hot dog and a bun
Baseball or opera, whatever your thing,
Either way it ain't over till the fat lady sings
Rossinni - Babe Ruth
Verdi - DiMaggio
Wagner - Mark McGuire
Sing The Met - make "The Show"
Subtitles - scoreboard
PBS - ESPN
Evrybody dies - or strikes out - in the end
3rd act - 9th inning
Curtain Down - last out
Curtain calls - parking lot shouts
Baseball or opera, whatever your thing,
Either way it ain't over till the fat lady sings.

The crowd was restless and the ushers eager
To watch their angels in the grand arena
Play out the drama in its pre-planned sections
Each with his own role, but all together
The critics nagged us: Bring back the old school
God damn your subtitles and your infield fly rule
Where have you gone, Giuseppe Verdi?
Your spirits crushed by dull-witted money
And it's something more than the talent of the players
And it's something more than the wonder of the fans
And you can feel it as the dark car rolls you homeward
You've seen the greatest thing that ever came from man
Those were dark days when the English National
And Richard Ravitch called for the curtain
And deep in silence we all left the grand stand
Filled out the churchyard to watch the Trojans
For it is more than the righteousness of unions
And it is more than the capital of kings
For where grownups lose their sight of that great vision
There will be eager children waiting in the wings
There you are, Giuseppe Verdi
I thought we'd lost you, but now I can see
That it is more than the legacy of genius
And it is more than the ticket pricer's take
And there is no war of baseball vs. opera
Only a fleeting glimpse of truth in something fake.

Well, the Mets (or Met’s) got some new players this year and they put on quite a show
I had nothing to do on a Sunday afternoon, so I decided to go
It was late when I arrived, they were already playing the A’s
When someone missed the very first pitch, I thought it was one of those days
But as the afternoon progressed, things turned much more fun
I sat astonished in my seat, enjoying every run
When Caruso started to swing, the crowd stood up to yell
Even all the second strings were playing very well
A mighty organ played away amid the vocal throng
And fanfares filled the air that day, for nearly 3 hours long
That night I looked back on the day and thanked the stars above
How great to spend the afternoon with what you really love
