Now that a 12 year old with no musical ability can virtually record a cd in his bedroom of the same quality as the lastest Top 40 hit - maybe record companies will stop dishing out lazy, uninspired junk to the masses.

We can only dream...

there's a very strong chance that my song in next week's fight will be primarily composed in garageband. i wanted to test it in conjunction with my current set up, so i built the basic arrangement and mixed it in garageband using instrument loops i had no access to otherwise (like organ, stand up bass, strings), then bounced down a stereo track of that and imported it into protools and built around that with live guitar, vox, etc. so basically, i'm using it as a sequencer for creating tracks with instrumentation i have no other access to. for that, it absolutely kicks ass.

Damn, d00d, you've got one mother-huge hard-on for that app. You on commission or what?
No, I just really don't like GarageBand. Don't even own Logic myself.

If you're using GarageBand mainly to record live audio, it's a decent program. Most of the stuff I record is done with softsynths, though. Plus the whole drop in a couple loops and sing over it, presto, pop song thing is irritating. Sure, the loops are fun to fiddle with. I even put a tune half made of GarageBand loops up on somesongs. But they're plastic music.
Let cake eat them.

garageband slaggers have to be either retarded or jealous. the ease of use argument falls kind of flat for me. does it make it easier to produce quality audio? no doubt! does it write my lyrics for me, create an arrangement, figure out lead tabs for me? ah....no. the songwriting exercise is still intact, it's just the mechanics have gotten easier and the tools have gotten more diverse and more accessable.

does that make garageband any less valuable as a tool? let's see.....ease of use, is that something i might find valuable...sure. yeah, i like that. what about a very large and well produced sound bank of loops of every instrument under the sun. sure, that might be nice to have. what about being able to modify track tempo on the fly, or drag and drop music files into a project as tracks. yeah, that's all some nice stuff too. and how much will all this set your ass back financially?

$495.00. and they throw in this nice little computer too.
