Coverfight has traditionally never cared what the f anybody does for their cover. I think the idea here would be only a pseudo-coverfight anyway, with the real goal being "how good can i make this song if i redid it?" It would be like, a chance to fix all those things you may not have liked when you entered it into the fight, or to get the take you always wanted but never took the time to do. A lot of us always say we're gonna go back and do that song over some day, but we never do. This would be a chance to do that. Or just to go nuts and make your acoustic guy/guitar song into a total rocker or electronica dance song or something.

ok. A reinterpretation fight, like when bands get tired of doing the same song the same way a million times on the road and start playing it differently.

..... owwww jack.... my head hurts...

What happened to the the Elvis fight! That seems like a great one. Although I do have to say the coverfight of other SFers was pretty fantastic. I think that should be a yearly thing.

That's a fun idea, JB. What if someone else got to choose which of our songs we were to redo?

I like this idea. I would do this if this was the theme for coverfight. I would not do it if someone else got to pick out the song for me.

I like the Elvis one too. I've been wanting to do a particular Elvis cover for a long time... but no time. A coverfight would get it done, probably. Start it in May!

JB's idea is perfect as he wrote it down. No need for any further discussion, compromises, interpretations, or clarifications. What is the deadline, JB?

OK, so there was all this talk, and then nothing happened. Are we going to do this, or were people just "musing"?

Sweet.

One thing that's not clear between jb's two posts:

Is it any old song?
Take one of your own songs and do it over like you're covering it.
Or any old Songfight! song?
a chance to fix all those things you may not have liked when you entered it into the fight
I'm in either way, but I want to know how big a back-catalog I'm dealing with. (And FWIW, I think it should be limited to Songfight! submissions.)

What about a Bert B-acca/dacca-ra fight? Everyone does a Bert Bacharach song in the style of AC/DC - or vice-versa.

This kind of seems like where we were headed with this. Goodness gracious, lord almighty!

Elvisfight would be good, too.

I also liek the idea of collab-cover-solo fight. Take oen of your solo songs and cover it as a collab project. maybe in pairs.

The Topic Is Settled

Unless a whole bunch of people protest, enough people have expressed interest in doing "Cover Yourself", so let's do that one. Deadline June 1.

Was it ever settled whether the songs we covered had to be ones that were actually submitted to songfight? 'Cause I've got some things that I didn't submit to the fights and then later wished I had ("Zombie Son" among others).

If stuff like that is out of bounds for this fight, maybe it would make a cool sidefight some other time...
