well, I'll definitely be in with some Rush... and it'll have to be Tom Sawyer.. although I don't have a double kick, I'm pretty certain I can play it with a single pedal... or die trying.

Tom Sawyer is a fine, fine choice. Just the vintage I was looking for. Would you consider an 'unplugged' version...acoustic guitar, congas, vibes...it would get you out of having to deal with Neal. Helium can help you sound like Getty Lee.

You could alllllwayyyyys....[quick!] edit the double kik in![gasp!]..oh the horror....

(seriously though, it wouldn't be hard to do....it might hurt to do it, but it wouldn't be hard...)

more modern prog, Porcupine Tree! Mudvayne! OSI! And there are more...but yah, they can get tired fast...'specially that SB and Transatlantic stuff.....

Leaf...dont' think I'm up for DT. Not in my dreams....unless I really dumb it down. And what would be the point of that?

I have to disagree vehemently (aren't I predictable?). There is a good deal of humor (some merely attempted, IMO) but "all about humor" is a very short reading of his music. I don't classify him as prog per se. I'd say he is far closer to fusion/art rock (Apostrophe) on one end and simply classical (Civilization), on the other.

Magma! Reading that "history" page is pretty entertaining. Brings back lots of memories.

For you guys, yes. As long as it's more prog than metal...AND if you wear spandex while you sing (which you really should do always) Are you going in together?

Nice! I have spandex shorts and a net-spandex muscle shirt, to go along with my Ibanez 10-string.
Seoup and I are a partnership of body and soul. You just might even say we're one in the same person...

What's the verdict on Jethro Tull's "Aqualung"? Not that I'm calling dibs formally, just sort of sidling up to the interest line and timidly raising my hand and such.

Ah, screw it, if it's good, I'm in. Heh.

but what i'd call prog rock........

yes
emerson, lake, and palmer
early rush
jethro tull
genesis
roxy music

Yeah.
BTW, I heard a Musak version of Cross-eyed Mary once. Had to laugh.

It's good - and all yours.

I think you're technically correct - it seems like I opened a can o' worms here. I'm not sure if they're quite in the intended spirit - though they certainly could be interpreted.

I'm also going to argue against XTC (but maybe Dukes of the Stratosphere).

Ohhhh. I get it. That explains a lot....

Good question and good choice. I think it's yours if you'd like to stake your claim.

Congas on Tom Sawtyer? No way!

Ok...ok...I'll admit it.. I can already play the double kick part with one pedal... I know the drum part pretty much 100%... it's the guitar and bass that'll give me the fits...but I'm up to it.

I just had to have that dickhead moment of "pointing" out the tricky bit I already mastered...

What a dick.

I'm with you there. Too poppy for prog. Too smart and whitty. But labels are a bitch. Not sure there's an XTC song > 5 minutes. Maybe the Dukes...never got those.

Hehe...you earned it!

I'm drumming it on my desk right now. The crashes don't sound too good. And my roto-toms are out of tune. Sounds just like a real wood-block, though.

Since this is a prog thread, pompousness is encouraged.

Leafy Green Veggie, trust me...you can do it with one pedal. WD-40 or oil the CRAP outta your pedal and wear only socks with no shoes. I was suprised how much faster I could go. Like a flutterin hummingbird man. YOU of course will notice that it's different, but a lot of people won't.

Oh and smoke a bunch of crack first. That'll really make you fast.

hmmm...might try the crack suggestion.

I used to play with no shoes, but I wear shoes with no tread now, so I can glide on the pedal, and then I don't ahve to bother with putting shoes on and off during a gig. Really, the double kick part of that tune SHOULD be a single, it's just 2 thirty second notes...

hmmm...pompouser?

Of course, I WILL connect my purecussion fold-up kit, my 8 piece tama kit and my roland tf-7 ALL together for this tune. Photo documentation shall be provided.

I shall also employ plumber's clamps to get the geddy thing happening. Interestingly, Smalltown Mike, The Hip Cola and I all went to the same highschool as Geddy Lee. True story.

That was before the horrible chemical spill that left him disfigured and wanting.

Coincidentally, Hostage was just playing "Thick as a Brick" last night and it sounded great. (note: the edited-for-radio version) :) I bet he'd be in for this.

Don't know if anybody knows this, but I used to be a radio station DJ and I had a prog rock show. However, don't trust me too much about what is and what is not prog because it was a good excuse to play a lot of stuff.
This isn't happening for a while, right?
