i'm not good at reviewing movies, really. critics are bashing this one to pieces already, but i really enjoyed it. nice and bloody, and the battle scenes are fantastic, very similar to the siege on minas tirith in LoTR.
i would see it again.
Kingdom of Heaven
Most critics are bashing it because it came out after a long string of half-baked epics, but it lacked all the hackneyed Hollywood shit Entertainment Tonight stooges eat up like candy.
Seriously, it was fantastic. The naysayers wanted it to be another Gladiator, or Lord of the Rings, with a romantic cop-out and a fourth-wall-breaking comic relief. It was a hell of a movie. Ebert had the right idea on this one.
As for the visuals, I say the siege scenes were better than Lord of the Rings. And the tone was infinitely more serious and intelligent. Don't get me wrong, LOTR has an unshakable place in fantasy, but this is something else entirely. Gladiator was a poorly-written hack-and-slash, and it got Best Picture. If this gets any less consideration due to its release timing, I'll be really disappointed.
This gets a solid A from me. A high one.
