haha, i was thinking the same thing. but they were both old in ep IV, that's what i tell myself.

i really enjoyed it, it had a few lines of dialogue that turned my stomach, but so did the originals for that matter. i actually thought hayden acted much better in this one than he did ep II.

i'm glad i got to see what alderan looked like before they fucking blew it up.

I just re-watched Ep. IV last week for the first time in a long time, and still really enjoyed it. Darth and Obi Wan's "final" battle is definitely a huge let-down now, though. Ass-kicking Republic general Obi Wan who lead armies in the Clone Wars and beat pre-Darth to a pulp basically just puts up his saber and lets Darth kill him, after brooding 20 years in the desert on Tatooine. WTF?! It's a very unsatisfying ending to the one character that I empathize with in the new trilogy, no matter what the explanation. (EDIT: By that I meant, don't bother trying to provide some explanation for it, as it won't make it any more satisfying for me)

Yeah, you'll have to see Episode Three to understand.

Yeah, the whole if you strike me down you only make me more powerful line. I remember not understanding that when I saw it originally 25 years ago.

Are you serious or is this some kind of Jedi mind trick to get me to see the third "new" one?

It gets explained. Very subtley, but you learn about a new power that has been used to decieve one guy but to empower another.

The problem wasn't that they sucked in the originals, it was that they had some trace of subtlety. The new ones are all ninja-flips and shit. It's Lucas's fault. You can try to rationalize it by saying they're old and out of practice, sure, but it's really just that the director lost all sense of art.

Uh, The Force is a cross between a theological medium and a ninja like training. Are you insinuating that an action packed ninja sword fight shouldn't include powerful jumps and flips? Did all those kung fu movies back in the day suck too? Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon? All they are saying is that when Kanobi and Vader meet in episodeIV, it lacks the same enthusiasm as their bout in episodeIII. Because they are older? Well, thats just what we're telling ourselves. Their previous fight in episodeIII is clearly more fun and exciting to watch and just as pertinent to the story. (please excuse spellng errors) Lets not forget that by the time young Luke is done with his training he too is flipping and jumping all over the place.

uh... no. The problem was he had a small budget for what he wanted to accomplish back in the 70's, so he couldn't do the things exactly the way he wanted to. The ninja flips and stuff are awesome.

Clearly, he should do another CGI edit on "new hope" and spice that fight up.

Obviously.

Cause that's what we all want to see.

And while he's at it, he should have Vader go "hey..my droid... I built that thing!!"

See, how could anyone NOT know that Vader was Anakin? I mean, it wasn't a secret...

why didn't Anakin check out a doctor to see why his woman would potentially die in Childbirth? Retard.

Anakin may have the highest "midiclorian" levels of all time, but he sure wasn't the brightest apple to fall from the tree.

Upon futher reflection... Yoda nearly beats the emperor... Obi Wan destroys Vader... uh...what's with the "I must go into exile... I've failed" bullshit. Damn, they coulda ganged up and destroyed those guys. And HELLO OBI, finish the fuckin job.

As an action/fun summer flick, it was cool. As the answer to my desire to further enjoy the story of Star Wars, it kinda licked. There were no real "suprises" in plot. It seemed too soap operaish.

I hear Lucas is makin a prequel to "Corvette Summer" next. It should rock.

Haha. I saw that as part of a drive-in double feature with Star Wars in 1978.

Sparks is right about one thing for sure--Lucas did a terrible job directing these movies and basically sucked the human element right out of them with his CGI bullshit. While watching the original Star Wars, no-one I know was thinking "this light saber dual is slow because they're old and can't do flips and stuff." We bought it because it looked methodical and deliberate. The point seemed to be economy of movement and there is more of a fencing style to the dual. The flipping Yoda thing in AotC is just ridiculous. If you have to walk with a cane, then you can't do flips and shit when you're fighting. Or if you have the ability to do all that stuff, then apply it to your legs and walk like everyone else. In fact, I hate the CGI Yoda, period. Bring back the fucking muppet version already. At least he had a sense of humor and didn't walk around with a constant grave look on his face.

I still liked the new movie. I'm going to go see it again tomorrow.

I hated the CGI Yoda in AotC, but then in Ep III, they gave him the power of facial expression... Suddenly, Yoda is out-acting most of his co-stars. That's the power of the Force, there.

My verdict on Episode III: Thumbs up.

I wrote a much longer review on my blog, but nobody cares.

it had its own sucky bits, my wife and i have discussed them in detail, but on the whole i enjoyed it. definitely better than 1 & 2 but not as good as 4 5 or 6, that's my verdict.

I watched all 6 in five days and throughout all 6 I was thoroughly entertained. You just have to accept it for what it is and enjoy it. I can go through most movies with a closed mind and make fun of it the whole way through, or I could relax and just have fun while watching it. I prefer the latter.

Besides, I think any character is better than that whiny loser Luke in the first two. He's annoying. "I don't WANNA go farm, I wanna play with my SPACESHIPS AND MAKE SOUND EFFECTS WOO WOO". He was cool in the 3rd, however. Anakin just seemed much more realistic to me. (Now point at me and laugh, but that's how I feel)

there was zero romantic chemistry between anakin and his lady. he was whiny and angry and annoying and most people can't imagine why she would even want to be near him. also, his decision to join the darkside was abrupt and made no sense. he's all, i'm a jedi! then suddenly, no, i'm a sith and i swear fealty for ever! that should probably have happened a bit slower.
realistic? i don't think so.

The rest of it lacked realism as well. I mean, a robot with lungs!? Microscopic entities that make things move and lightning happen out of people's fingers? PSH.
