SFO has languished, because JOS is a big fat fuckup. Actually, I've just been really busy with life and stuff. But I'm still hanging on.

I've been waiting every week to make sure the FMs are still on the week-at-a-time schedule, and seeing as they have been, and how I'm a BFF as I mentioned, I'd like to change the way they are assigned. So what I'm going to do is ask people to sign up for weeks by PMing me with a week you'd like to sign up for. In this post I will update which dates are taken. First-come first-served. That way I don't have to proactively go hunt people down who are available, which has been a pain.

Remember all, for part 2, each piece should quote something from a first half entry, be it music or lyrics or an actual sample, just so long as the average listener can hear that something has been reprised. The idea is to give the thing some structure.

Please don't volunteer again if you've already gone twice. Everyone will get a third go 'round, (but the format of that is still a secret!).

So PM me indicating when you'd like to go. This week is already finished. If you are free anytime, let me know that, because it makes things a lot easier. If you don't volunteer yourself, I'm not going to come knocking on your e-door, I can't keep track of who is in and who isn't.

I mis-understood, sorry I didnt realise it had to come from part 1...ooopps

Sorry Jim

My first-half entry borrowed from all the other first half entries. Did I screw up? And can I go at the end of August (who knows what the exact dates are now)

Holy moley! I must admit I've been asleep at the wheel here, and haven't been keeping up with the fantastic efforts people have been putting in. Really wonderful stuff, everyone.

I blame myself for this, but most of the last half dozen or so entries have not flowed musically out of the entry the preceded it, so it is starting to sound like a slpiced together medley ("Song Fight on 45", if that reference means anything to you whippersnappers.) So I'm going to spend a little time writing segues between some of the rockier transitions. Hey, it's my project.

But again, great, great stuff, everyone.

Someone like to volunteer for this coming week?

your project? you initiated it and sort of moderate it every once in a blue moon, but it's a pretty organic process, and 95% of the material involved is not you. if you go futzing with it to "make it better" , it loses it's original intent.

but hey, whatever. it's your project.

I sort of agree, actually. But as good as these bits are, and they are all really good, the piece as a whole is suffering from a lack of cohesion now. My first instinct was to enlist people to construct "glue". Want to do one yourself? Anyone?

the lack of cohesion was part of the original set of constraints i felt one had to try to overcome in creating their little 45 second manifesto. my impression was to try to create something that worked on both a macro/micro level. obviously, different people were going to approach this thing in different ways. some would take it really seriously, some would not, some would be more focused on the big picture, some didn't give the big picture a second thought.

this was to be expected and to me anyways, was part of the beauty of the project. not to create a paint by numbers piece that we or you would go back to later and clean up, but a performance art piece, with no forseeable end in sight. it may not work on every level, and it may not always work for everyone. it's like a song fractal.

to me, it's as if a museum curator went up to a painting and said, "you know, if they'd just cleaned up this part a little better...."

that's my issue.

Actually, it was me trying to sound like Restless Events. Oh, and I never said so in the reviews but I absolutely love the way you transitioned out of mine and built on the sing-talking verse thing. And I like the walking bass line. Couldn't be any better.
