Using the wood-chipper on the IDable parts did keep us out of trouble though. You've gotta give me that.

The more I listen to this fight, the more I get into it. Early returns on moments of delight...

Johnny's (Jack's?) mad guitar tones

Draft making me laugh every time I hear his/their song

stueym's double kick action (and hey, bjam, I think Stolen Babies' vocalist might be worth a listen to, for that particular feel. Though I could be quite wrong, naturally)

Though I suspect the dark horse of Comfort's going to race to the front of the pack...

Real 'views to come eventually

Johnny in the Corner
"I think we've got an eater!"
This is exactly what I want out of a song called "Funeral Director." I shall vote for this!

Draft
Cool keyboard opening; it sounds like background music from a 60s Roger Corman movie. Actually the whole song seems to belong to a movie soundtrack. As it blasts out the cinema speakers, the credits roll and everyone stands up and leaves.

Evil-E
Lovely background music. I started to listen to it a second time to pay closer attention but only did the first minute. As such, I'm not sure what there's enough of for everyone. Is it death? I thought that the first time too, then my mind started to drift.

Phunt; Your Friends
What can I say about this?

Raw Strength and Courage
It sounds like a performance at a karaoke bar.

comfort
Catchy and creepy. Very nice singing. It's stuck in my head.

Pumpkin Buzzard
The piano is great! The violin is great! I enjoy the music but don't care at all for the singing (content and execution).

PiGPEN
I would never buy a coffin from you. The vocal doesn't carry the dignity of a "funeral director;" it's more sort of "morgue attendant" or "second assistant embalmer."

a music
I don't know about the vocal: it sounds dead, on the one hand, which is surely the point; and on the other hand, it sounds dead, which sucks energy out the song, making it less listenable.

Rabid Garfunkle
I think this is pretty good. All the bits are put together well.

The Landstander
This should get some credit for sounding the most like something that would actually be played at a funeral. It's really dull.

Noah McLaughlin
The vocal is carrying everything and everything is heavy. I would have enjoyed this if it had been sung by Lyle Lovett.

Fancy Admiral Coates
I like it when the banjo comes in. I didn't get what was going on until I played it a second time; it's kind of clever, but maybe not actually funny.

Rabid Garfunkle...

Your bits and pices go together well so you obviously have some great tallent, however, since you obviously have little to no pride in the United States, do the 200 million of us that do a favor and try making a nice little song with twisted words from another govenment (like France, Germany or Canada)so that we may enjoy the dribble that you spew...

Good luck finding any sound bites from anyone else...

Rabid Garfunkel...

Your bits and pices go together well so you obviously have some great talent, and since you obviously have enough pride in the United States to point out the hypocricy and criminality of the worst presidency in the history of our great nation, do the 50 million of them that don't a favor and try making a more songs with twisted words from our govenment (like Rove, Rice, Rumsfeld, Cheney) so that we may enjoy more of the dribble that you spew...

And thank you for offending a misinformed Republican Texan.

Draft

This gets my vote. I wasn't going to vote in the fight at all because there wasn't enough really voteworthy going on, but this song is so completely realized it's got to be admired. I really love how you took the standard 12-bar blues progression and twisted it to these unusual chords instead. I think it's probably really hard to make a song sound that apocolyptic but not be completely out of control, but you've managed it here. I'm picturing that devil guy with the enormous horns played by Tim Curry in the movie Legend. Great job.

Thanks Jim. The song was very much realized by my buddy Chad and I. I especially love the Tim Curry concept. That rings soooooo true you can not even imagine how much I feel that you nailed the essence of this song with that description. He really is a Funeral Director from hell. If I ever write a musical about a Necrophiliac in a Funeral Home in the guise of a Funeral Director, Tim Curry would be topping that list. Draft thanks you for the review and the vote.

shadowdog,

1) Learn to spell my fucking name, it's right there on the screen
2) I'm a fucking veteran, I served under Reagan, and then Bush during the First gulf war. What about you, huh? You, who have so much PRIDE in this country, are YOU willing to lay down your LIFE for it?
3) Fuck you, and your blind, oblivious arrogance
4) Suck it
:x

Edit... after first cup of coffee of the day... now that the cranky-ass tantrum is over, I'd like to say...

I stand by everything I said.

I'm attacking the man, not the office, nor the country. They are not all one and the same, 'dog. Speaking one's mind, no matter how seditious, is not yet a crime in this country.

Or have you already bought the jackboots and Sam Browne belt and are just itching to wear them in public? Gabba gabba hey.

Rabid's tune is great.
You did all the splicing yourself, right?
Reminds me of the old drug splice on Reagan... good stuff.
The bassline rocks.
Great song.

Alas, no. Dr. Yo is the mad genius who put that together. Stumbled across it on Thursday last, promptly sent him an email requesting permission to use it, got the go ahead and started work on the song.

Music's all me (and Francis Scott Key). Hope I'm not breaking your heart there, Bill

a music like the music, like the lyrics... it feels like a saturday morning tv show song

comfort my cousin gave it a 3/10 and decided it was not worth talking about... my attempts at singing make me feel self-conscious... and i notice every single out of tune bit... =P

draft great bass... sounds like zoom brand effects.... like a little pandora box. i think if i heard this music in person i'd be dancin and tryin not to spill my beer having a great time with a girl with red hair shaking her butt... awesome

evil e retro stylins... ween phaser. the music is good. americana... love the twang guitar and the sequence around 1:40 i think i would enjoy the mix being a bit more presentthe drums and bass feel a bit farther back in the mix. great voice work

fancy admiral coates i actually really like this... i like the change at 1:00 and i like the way all these different things sort of move around in the mix without becoming too annoying.

johnny in the corner i like the beat. and the guitars are great, the voice feels like you're singing it for a gimmick song... hmm... the one part i like is the yeah yeah yeah part

the landstander with a bit of noise reduction i'd be happy. but i really really like everything else. great voice. great guitar and great delivery. i like the mellow approach. i want to hear more. i could listen to an album of this.

noah mclaughlin i'm moving my head back and forth... reeds flowing in the breeze.... a bit of sunset sunshine full on my face... they put the poison needle in and i'm slowly fading away... WHOAAAAAAAAAAA who is that man singing!??? i don't dislike the voice, but i wanted maybe a voice like landstander in this... just mellower... and this voice sort of counterpoints the guitar, but i sort of wanted to stay in the nice mellow mood... i resent the voice, even tho i would like it in another setting

phunt your friends this is why i wake up in the morning. this is sort of like a really smart person saying really dumb shit. or like martin luther king telling dirty jokes... my point being that i can tell from listening to this silly music that the level of musical control is very very high... but phunt is either too self-conscious to make something more vulnerable, or just way cooler and above our heads and therefore inadvertently patronizing. either way this is more inspiring and interesting and enjoyable to listen to than most everything else on this site. long live da phunt.

pigpen this is great. it flows. i could listen to more of this. what else is there to say. it works... i want a different mc to come in and kick ass, but i'm afraid it won't be as good as whoever is rappin... pigpen is it? give us more.

pumpkin buzzard the mix is way low on my system... way lower than the other songs... i like the violin bits and the growl... this could be a lot of fun to listen to live. i like how everything breaks down and then comes back

rabid garfunkel you must be some sort of muslim anti-american comunist!!! go back to france where the rest of the fags live!!!!!! HAHAHAHA just kidding, i just wanted to make trouble like the other guy... ok, now for the actual review: you, sir, put the funk back in garfunkel... i like the remix on actual audio. very much in the style of "the hour of slack" great drums and bass... i really feel like a shitload of brass should be coming in on this song: da da da daaaaaa da, just a bunch of almost ska-ish brass hits.

raw strength and courage hehehe... this has a retro vibe to it... like heart or 1970's rock. i like the song structure. would like the drums to be a bit more present.

k, that's all
i'm going to bed

:-/ Landstander isn't me. RS&C is me.
The Landstander would be one half of the great acoustic rock duo Hello to Ruin (kinda surprised no one's drawn that connection yet as I believe it was drawn in earlier fights a few months ago.. however I believe the last two fights have been somewhat better, so perhaps this means I don't sound as horrid) and one forth of the Landstanders, who, I must add, sound completely different as the rest of them can actually play instruments.. Which would kinda make me the Landstander.

Just to let you know; I bought a guitar about a year ago, I have been using the internet to teach myself how to play, and although the internet as been somewhat helpful, I really don't know much more than I did when I started. So, I acknowledge that I basically suck, but I do enjoy music and like to make attempts at playing it.

In regards to the fight: I am sorry; I didn't realize the fret squeaks were so loud until after I listened to it on here.
And because the lyrics are almost impossible to hear they go something like:

The flightless path of a dragonfly
Laying in the grass
I watched you tear off it’s wings
Spit on it and walk away

Yearning to be crushed
It struggles to move
But, I can’t bare to kill it
..So I walk away too.

Tomorrow will leave me to play funeral director
As I lay awake thinking about beating wings
Broken.
And cursing you

We are gathered here today
To mourn
With eulogies for broken hearts
Empty lives
And for everything that could not be said
..Or was forgotten at the back of our heads.

I just can't seem to find a pattern in this
All I ever see is choas
When I need clarity the most

I can’t believe you left me to play funeral director
..It deserved something better.

Sry Rabid Garfunkel (corrected spelling) for not responding earlier...

Nice response before and after coffee... I was hoping to find your pulse somewhere, 'caus you sure found mine.

Yes, I too am a veteran through the first gulf war and believe that every man should serve to protect this country (if we don't then who will?).

I have my own disappointments with our leaders but due to my lack of musical talent i can only enjoy every week of songfight and try to encourage as many people as i can to listen to Songfight because i believe in what you guys are doing, and want to make sure you get the recognition that you deserve. However, i don't like to encourage people to listen to talented musicians such as yourself, strip our country through your words but thought it would be cool (as i stated in my original post) to see and hear some cool songs about other governments and their leaders that don't have the balls to say anything, or stir the pot but are happy to sit and watch things boil...

Ck out Tim Hinkle's song this week.... it is badass and extremely powerful...

Dark Liberty is tearing it up and these guys are getting better each week...

Dollar Bill and the Inkpoints... awesome!!!

Gert ---> Send it to the Pubishers NOW!!!!

AMusic ---> Dark but exteemly good.

comfort --->This is burning to the CD now...

draft ---> Cool as hell, and should be the soundtrack for Rocky Horror Picture Show II

evile ---> smooth

Fancy Admiral Coates ---> great sounds, how was this conceived?

Jonny in the Corner ---> How do you keep making each song sound so different and dynamic [Put your stuff on CD and sell this]!!!!!!

The Landstander ---> Your voice is incredible!!!

Noah Mclaughlin ---> This is, like most of your stuff worthy of many, many playbacks...

PYF ---> You guys get better and better and your inginuity never stops, thnx

Rabid Garfunkle ---> Well i guess you already have my review... Look forward to next weeks entry...

Raw Strength and Courage ---> here is a beatiful voice and a beatiful song, this song reminds me in some ways of Kate Bush. [The women that enter these fights all seem to have incredible voices and definitly raise the bar for everyone]

pigpen - dude don't listen to much rap but this is good stuff.... coo sound, production and lyrics .... ahhhhh

Pumkin Buzzard - pretty raw sound but you can sing and that ties the song together
