I'm good to go, apart from getting told we're playing some non songfight material (how dare they) which I haven't heard and I've no idea whats happening with Half a Stone. Maybe I'll just do a Jew's harp solo for that one. My first practice with the full Pomp lineup will be the performance itself so good luck me.

Dear American songfighters
Songfight UK was an unqualified success - and I have a career as a compere if my musical career doesn't take off.
Amazingly, I WON THE LIVE SONGFIGHT!
Pompeii with Motherfunker were awesomely tight, Masters of Grip rocked the English Cowboy sound, Kapitano's fantastic electronic sound blew us all away, Kamakura brought an amazing musicianship and impressed us all with a nice mix of man 'n' piano/man 'n' guitar, and J$ was well, he just was.
MP3s and video to follow, and photos later tonight. But you missed a good one.

Johnny! You're hott... are you sure you're not straight!?!?!
I amend my previous statement (I think it was via PM though) to include:
Johnny, you are the hottest, rockinist, gay English internet Rockstar I know!
I've always wanted to see a picture of you! Thanks and congrats on what looks to have been a successful Songfight Live!

Yesh, sneakers. But they do have velcro instead of laces, which is quite camp I guess
Heather, you make me blush yet again!
There were 3 video cameras (including Pompeii's truly scarily professional looking one) recording and 5 dig cameras taking pics, so there will be plenty more of everyone, and unfortunately, those I can't pick and choose the ones I look cutest in
So anyway, i kind of got volunteered for editing the various footage all together into one Songfight UK DVD, so I'll probably snatch the audio from that. (recording through the PA turned out not to be a logisitical possibility unfortunately.) I do have a grimy cassette bootleg of my performance for true punk authenticity, though

They certainly do. Unfortunately I broke my only jack lead in the process of plugging it in, so you'll have to wait until tomorrow for the experience. Maybe God is trying to tell me something?Niveous wrote:Grimy Cassette Recordings Rock!j$ wrote:I do have a grimy cassette bootleg of my performance for true punk authenticity, though

While I'm on the subject of compiling a DVD, it would be helpful if everyone could let me have their set-lists. I can pretty much remember most of them, or work it out from the audio if possible, but it would be good if people can confirm exactly how they want it listed &c -

Ah, sex pest. I thought you lot wre singing 'Sex Dress' which didn't seem to make much sensechoppsta wrote:Wow, what a MAD time we had!!

It was very cool to meet the Pompeii and the remarkably dishy Motherfunker. It's strange how absolutely no-one looked like how I imagined they would. Not even me

Why do women never come out with that??!!!! Top event on Sat, I think thats the first time my bro and me have performed live together in about ten years.j$ wrote:the remarkably dishy Motherfunker
Anyhoo, just to clear something up. The big chap next to this message is Pop Idol runner up Rik Waller. Not only is he unbelievably fat but he's also a grumpy moody old git too. He is NOT Pompeii's drummer who is in fact called Phil and is comparatively slim and a whole lot jollier. Kapitano take note.

The most excellent legal fun I've had in a good while...
Thanks to all for a great time, and especially for the jam at the end, which was the bollocks!
It was also peachy to put faces to names.
My set list was:
On keyboard -
Puppets Dream
Keep in touch
In the ditch
Hero Points
On Guitar -
Sincerity Machine
A day in the life
Half a stone
When is the next one?

When is the next one indeed? In the Spring sometime maybe? I'm itching to play again, despite the lack of musical talent that listening back to the cassette bootleg of my performance makes abundantly clear; as evidenced by this ...

Um, the recording quality from the cassette is terrible. Caveat listenor. The audio I capture of the film footage should be a whole hell of a lot better. This is just to give you a diet flavour of the event...
It has also been pointed out that there is a huge factual error in this lyric. Retrospectively I can argue it's meant to be an indicator that the character is an unreliable narrator, but the truth is I just got it wrong.
You'll need the words.
Half A Stone
This song has been written especially
For our dear American cousins
Though we don’t have a language in common
I hope you can follow my cussin’
Our chocolate tastes so much better
Our beer is much stronger too
But we needed the help of American wealth
To finish off World War Two
CHORUS: You say 7 kilos
We say half a stone
You say ass and we say arse
But you’re (2nd time: we’re) driving on the wrong side of the road
So take it back home
You think that we’re all poshos or cockneys
Cor luv a duck, Dick Van Dyke
Aren’t British people funny? No
I’m tired of being your bike
Underpaid, under-sexed and over here
Island weather makes me depressed
Let’s Boston Tea Party in reverse
Not lap-dance for the US
CHORUS
I’m drowning in the Mid-Atlantic x4
CHORUS x2
If/when we do this again, I want to put a Johnny Cashpoint Band together. As anyone who witnessed my wig-out dancing to the 'I am a Winner' 20 minute jam, the performer in me was a bit shackled by the single guitar & backing track approach of the majority of my set. Any volunteers?
j$
PS let me thank again Mr Andy Balham for helping me out on the organisational side of this live songfight. Not only is he a top geezer, and a cool, generous musician, but also without complaint he took on a lot of the difficult crap; which allowed me to [ahem]blue sky[/ahem] the event properly. *sings to the tune of 'The Red Flag', 'The working class can kiss my ass, I've got the foreman's job at last'
