Talk about your gear, neigh and bray over your new purchase, or just be a snob.

Edit: These are items I purchased legitimately.

These things included: A "tric" case, the kind that comes with Seagull high-end guitars. It's made of a funky dashboard-type material.

A PVM22 - Peavey mic kinda like a 58

And the kicker - TWO AT3035's - Solid large-diaphragm condenser with shockmount by audio technica. I already have one of these. I only took one home, I let my coworker take the other. I highly recommend this mic for anyone, ever. $200.

A good $600 in merchandise. Good haul.

I also have a mesa boogie studio preamp right now that is delectable.

I'm just messing with you Sticky Fingers, I mean Sober. To the inventory guy goes the spoils I guess. I hear Ambien works pretty well, if you have trouble in that regard.

As far as gear lists goes, I don't have anything you would like.

i've got me a univox minikorg analog monosynth. it makes me very happy.

with the markup music stores put on gear (you'd be amazed), i'm glad people do lift things from them now and then. it just evens things out a bit.

i love my mesa sober. best production amp you can buy i think. an arsenal of sound

i'm looking to get a simple sort of MIDI controller setup. or maybe something like the MicroKorg, if I could find one cheap enough (150-200 bucks). any suggestions?

the kaysound mk-4902 is a 49 key midi controller with pitch and mod wheels, and some minor programming capabilities. it's actually the only controller i own, and i'm quite happy with it. i think it runs for around $50, but i could be mistaken.

as for midi boxes, i know several exist in the $20-40 range; i tend to prefer midiman/m-audio stuff, but i think a lot of them are really similar.

Same here, but I found I then had to buy strings for it which were almost 6 dollars a set, and a felt ukelele pick is like 3 bucks. A soft case for a uke will run about 40 bucks for a decent one. Don't even get me started on how much a ukelele pickup or mic will cost. That's where they get you... the accessories.

I recently got a 16-track digital recorder, and some studio monitors. And a condenser mic that's way too sensitive for my little setup (as it is now, anyway). Oh, and a nice pair of headphones. It's amazing what a difference the headphones and monitors made. I can actually hear all the crap in my recordings that other people have pointed out. Now to improve upon it!

Just to clarify, I didn't steal those things, because they weren't technically there. My manager would literally have thrown them away. I gave them a safe home. I'm a saint.

And as for 'markup,' I haven't seen anything really outrageous. Fender, Gibson, Boss, Shure, and SKB products in particular have almost no margin.

i know in terms of pro audio, there's very little markup, but my friend is the guitar manager at guitar center. apparently there's a decent amount of markup for pr reasons; i.e., "oh, yeah, retail's $500, but i can totally hook you up, buddy..." the sales guys are encouraged to give people little deals to keep them coming back. it's probably not like that everywhere.

GC has more room than any other chain, because they themselves get better deals on gear because they can buy in such huge quantities.

Plus they work out special deals with certain companies (particularly Fender and Monster Cable) to lower cost even more.

I can buy an American strat for x dollars at my store, while a GC employee can buy it for x-100 or so. But I make more money than most GC guys, so it's no big deal.

BACK TO DISCUSSING GEAR.

A nice desk is a priority right now. KK audio makes a perfect one. Also, a hard case and plugin board for my Motif. I don't think I'll buy the Mesa preamp, I'm just not impressed by it at all. Then I'm getting a Fender Bassman 250 combo (1x15) to use as a keyboard amp.

Just picked up a brand spanking new ART Pro Channel tube/optical comp/eq pre. Trying to figure out if it really adds anything extra in having that processing power "to tape" as opposed to working with plugs after. Certainly it rocks with bass guitar...wow! New microphone is on my hit list next. A decent midrange condensor. Suggestions?

I've found that Art Tube pre's make excellent bass and Acoustic guitar DIs. Especially if you change the tube. Which is pretty easy to do.

I suggest the Studio Projects mics for a midrange condenser. I like the B1 a whole lot.

not to get too off-topic, but Ken can you elaborate on what you mean by "changing the tube?"... I'm assuming you mean open up the box and put a different, more desireable tube in? I'm totally new to the tubular world, so forgive my lack of understanding.
