Oops, I entered songs for both fights this week. I didn't know that was a no-no. What a sucky rule, though. Some weeks, I wish I could enter 3 or 4 songs because I make them rather impulsively anyway, and if I couldn't enter them here, I'd have to go back to the meagre pay off of calling my mom and playing them for her over the phone just to avoid going totally insane with loneliness.
hi!

Hmm, you can try: http://somesongs.com if you want to post songs, get a few reviews, and hopefully post some reviews of your own...melvin wrote:if I couldn't enter them here, I'd have to go back to the meagre pay off of calling my mom and playing them for her over the phone just to avoid going totally insane with loneliness.

You've done it before, you've been told before. By me, if not others.melvin wrote:Oops, I entered songs for both fights this week. I didn't know that was a no-no. What a sucky rule, though. .
Don't use the rule as the excuse.
Mind, in a world where novelty tracks can sail away with both fights, I don't really care too much for trying to protect it (the rule, that is, not the world). Well-written and performed songs both, but throw-away novelty nonetheless. Who needs me to destroy music when you are all marching to the beat of its destruction quite happily anyway?

Oh and, unlike CR, my RE:VC: is not great! But it's not meant to be. And the lyric is fantastic and insightful - so up yours Puce & the Cow Exchange

I think this is how people in England say "Congratulations."j$ wrote:Mind, in a world where novelty tracks can sail away with both fights, I don't really care too much for trying to protect it (the rule, that is, not the world). Punk rock is for children. Grab a six-pack at Half-a-Dozen Records.
did Caravan Ray infect you with his weird pseduo-english disease?Rabid Garfunkel wrote:You've always been a dab hand with the EST here, blue.

re: Mike's win:
i thought his song should have been a lot better, but i figgered it'd win. at least it didn't just suck big nasty balls. it definately had a pleasant sound and some hook quality.
which brings me to losing my religion - how the hell do a bunch of good songs get zero votes while that wanktastic garbage from JoS wins? voters, i am calling you out! PUT DOWN THE CRACK PIPE. would George Winston win every fight?
aaand.. Melvin's tunes are pretty good, judging from his BYF entry. Melvin, as long as you submit GOOD songs, no one's going to yell at you much. i mean, it's still a crappy thing to do, and there is probably still plenty of room for improvement in ONE song, but it's not like you're one of the Phuntards or something.

After peeking at the strange lyric thread, I'm soverymuch excited to hear them performed. Lyrical puzzles are the best.
Hey, I did NOT know I couldn't enter two songs until I saw it mentioned yesterday. Perhaps, J$, you just cursed my name and slammed your head against the mixing console a few times, but didn't actually remember to type out the memo.
I mean, if my mom is my number one fan, do I really strike you as the type to be knowingly breaking rules and acting like a jerk in the only other forum I know of for my music? I'd at least have the decency (okay, deviousness) to enter the second song under an alias.
So is there a thread somewhere, or would someone mind explaining, why this practice is so frowned upon? If you don't mind me saying, it's not like I don't spend a large amount of time obsessing over each of my entries, and making sure they are well-formed, complete, respectable and worthy SongFighters each time.
I somehow doubt the majority of my cohorts here are so petty and nasty as to make a big deal out of it if I repeat this practice every few fights or so. Plus, I entered nothing in the last fight. Maybe there's an averaging formula that we can apply? Anyway...
Congrats to Smalltown (a pet favourite of mine) and to JoS (catchy AND clever). While I agree with J$ that there's a fair bit of "novelty" to these tracks, I see no need to "take the piss". Good work, boys.

There's a lot of songs to listen to and review. Believe me; I didn't even finish my Welcome To reviews last week.
If you submit two songs, it's arguable that you could have chosen the better or most promising of the two, and crafted it in even finer detail. Regardless of the quality of the two pieces submitted, they are watered down by default. So you're asking me to spend twice the time to listen to something I know is not as good as it could have been.
Here at SF the only bar is the one each of us raises for ourselves. It's my opinion that we owe it to those downloading and listening to raise it as high as we can. Whether this sentiment is reflected in my submission this week is another matter entirely.
I tried my best though.
