Dedicated to my dearest. This song is the inner monolouge of a lovestruck me written about 5 hours after meeting her for the first time. I wanted background noise of me and my friends hanging out and having fun to set a "this is what im thinking, but meanwhile everybodys just talking" kind of feel. At least, thats what I was trying to convey.

good damn, this is nice. the kind of music i aspire to making. i love the build of the first verse and chorus and the kick-in at 1:30 is wonderful.

oh, and hell, look at that: a bridge, even. loverly.

this should probably be answered in theHow to Record Acoustic Guitar forum, but how DO you get that thick, crisp guitar sound?

For that particular song, it was a Shure PG58 stage mic about 3 inches away from the 20th fret (just beyond the top of the sound hole). I then recorded the whole thing twice and did a super-wide stereo panning job so one guitar is 100% out the left and the other is 100% out the right. I had a very slight EQ adjustment on the guitar. I took 10,000hz down 4db and pushed 15,000hz up 6db. Most of my noise was hovering at about 8000hz-11,000-hz, so I was able to supress it. Pushing 15,000hz fools your ear into believing I didn't dystroy the high-end.

And thanks!
I'm back.

I typed a nice little summary of ForkBomb, and then pressed alt+w to insert a url, which promptly closed my browser. I'm not writing it again; If you go to the site I'm sure you can figure it out.

Basically, I love Songfight to death but I'm no good at making songs out of titles. I want to start doing a song every weekend, so I whipped up this music blog so I'll have something to work on during those Happy Machine Ankle weeks.

Also, if there’s significant interest I will be posting sources for my songs. Just in case anyone wants to remix one, or even just snicker at my accapellas.

I covered "After Hours" by the VU. I think I did okay with it.

sos is working on a new album. it will probably mostly sound like this:

http://www.sonofsupercar.org/music/albu ... aggeth.mp3

i'm looking for opinions on the mix in general. drums too thin? i was trying for a more natural drum sound than i usually get. the guitars also sound a little unbalanced in this mix - maybe a hair too bassy.

thankee in advance.

Who the hell listens to drums, anyway?

This song is fucking awesome, BTW. Needs screaming on it, though.

Blue,
its nice sound...good style..interesting guitar work...s'good that

but on the mix front, I think that duirng the 'verse' setion there needs to be more kik. maybe by boosting it at a higher freq to add more attack or clik to it. It also seems narrower ..when the more distorted sound is on...then it really widens on the clean guit parts or in the middle wen the guits split till the end
Good snare sound, and bass sound
definatley needs more definition in the kik.

That probly my only tip. Oh yeh and words are you gonna put in words heheheehheehe I think I read somewhere that a song needs words heheehehheeh

check out this thread
help needed there too

Cheers

Hmmm I was gonna make a joke about forgetting to un-mute the vocal track, but i say that's taken care of ...

My impressions (from someone who knows arse-all about mixing) ..

1. It sounds great.

2. The bass in the first half of the song is a bit too perky. I understand that it's playing 'lead' so it needs a more trebly take, but it could do with not being quite so bright)

3. The rhythm guitar especially in the first half of the song sound a tiny bit flat (tone wise not tune wise) - they are at the right volume, but maybe another wash of excitement. I appreciate they're to 'one side' dynamically but when the mind gets round to checking it out it should a wasp sting not a bee sting. Sorry, that's the best way I can think to describe it. Maybe compress them some more so they are more jagged. At the moment they are a bit smooth?

4. The drums are thinner than usual. It suits the angular postpunk pop thing going on. Maybe a tiny wash of the dreaded 'verb would make them sound mightier? Or maybe justa tad louder. One of the great things about SOS when they're great is that the drums are a third lead instrument. Don't be shy!

5. It all settles in by the seocnd half of the song anyway. I always say that about SOS songs though, so maybe you shold ignore me on that one.

6. What are gonna do when Wire want their riffs back? :) (Actually the main riff is similiar (by which I mean almost the same as) Swell Maps' 'Another Song', but the joke stands!)

Sounds good to my ears, Poor June. I liked it well enough to listen to it a few times (I'm listening to it as I type, in fact) and it got me interested to hear some of your other songs. I love the starkness of your arrangements; it's well suited to much of what I heard, though I wanted "Goodbye, Hello" to be fuller in the chorus. I realise the stark sound probably isn't entirely by choice, but the "less is more" principle works well for you. I like the backward strings that I heard here and there, as well.

Nicely done. Next time I log in to Soundclick, I'll grab a few downloads for my listening pleasure. :)

Hey...

Over in the help and how to threads, under my question about the original hxaro definition, I've posted a link to lo-fi rough demos of a project I've been working on, setting some poems by Guillaume Apollinaire to music. If anybody's willing to listen & comment, 'twould be useful.

Thanks,

Ya, great job Poor June. Very polished.. The song sounds familiar. Did you post a previous mix of it here?

I just listened to blue's track too.

Two things struck me:
1) The snare is *really* snappy. That's not a bad thing, but I think in this track, it might sound better with a little less attack.
2) It sounds like the cymbals are mixed down the middle. I think it would help the balance, especially in the end section, if the ride was out to the left.

hi

I liked the tunes, I listened to Blue:

I agree with what Deshead says about the cymbals. Might ask oneself the question:, is it a left or right handed drummer? and are we listening from behind the kit or in front of the kit? It's rockin' though! Would be psyched to hear it with vocs.

and Poor June:

The tones sound great! I like the stops/starts, I hear some harmonies on some other parts. I dig it. I think that more harmonies would help the chorus hit harder, if that was so desired. Listening more than once...to both of these sweet tunes!

drummer is left handed and i don't have any cymbals mic'ed, so they're stuck where they are. :D

uh.. same kinda goes for the crackin' snare. i just tune my drums up until the rings start to bend.

thanks for the listen!
