ok, not right now, but on friday m and i went to see depeche mode in concert. quite cool. they're doing a good job of keeping the old songs fresh, by varying up the sounds they use, especially in the intros to the old songs, which is pretty cool. you're often not quite sure which song is being played until a little bit in,... or at least i wasn't.
also, you gotta like dm because there's a dude that wears glasses ;) or at least us geeky guys do. or maybe that's just me.
anyway, really enjoyed the concert. the opener was the bravery, who are pretty good but you can really hear a difference in the professionalism of depeche mode vs. those guys. give them time, i guess.
anyway, good times. fun show.

Hoblit's "Honeymoon in Polynesia". What a great fucking tune dude. Reminds me of "Nothings Shocking" era Janes Addiction the way it builds. It's just a really awesome tune. Crying shame it only got 4 votes but hey, that's songfight for you.

animal collective - feels
king geedorah (one of MF doom's many pseudonyms)
tv on the radio
why?

a lot of people seem to be making a fuss about the band the editors, but i can't seem to figure out what the big deal is. i guess they're like a more upbeat interpol or something. i like interpol and everything, but there's only so many carbon copy joy division bands i can stand.

Sandollars by Why? is an awesome track.
Also, I came really close to ripping off Decatur by Sufjan Stevens last week. The new Stapleton record predictably kicks ass too.

a lot of people make a big perpetual fuss about a plethora of half-arsed bands and will forever more. Many 15yr olds may have still not heard Joy Division so I guess we'll have to let them off liking the Editors. for now.

My dad got me into Cat Stevens this week and then I caught him listening to David Gray (?!), this world makes no sense.

I was going to put together a compilation of christmas songs to play over the festive season and then I came across Diana Krall's latest offering - Christmas Songs. Very classy and elegant. If you're fed up of hearing Slade every year on the radio, then get this and the true magic of christmas comes alive.
so . . . when was the last time you backed up?

Why can't you?

I've been listening to The Gerogerigegege's Tokyo Anal Dynamite. Really wonderful stuff.

'Horses' by Patti Smith. Dunno how this passed me by until the 30th anniversary re-release, but wow.

Sigur Ros 'Takk' - ok. A bit more 'major key' and less reverby guitars than previous outings. A lunge for the 'mainstream'. Good but not as good as other albums.

Go Team - 'Thunder Lightning Strike' - pretty damn good.

'The Futureheads' - always hated them then heard this album playing in a shop without knowing who it was and thought 'good' - so I bought it and yes, it is. Always willing to admit my mistakes. Dont like the geordie accents all that much, and 'Hounds of Love' is still novelty indie crap, but I would reccommend this to anyone.

I've been folking it up recently.

Christine Lavin Presents: Big Times In A Small Town, The Vineyard Tapes
Michael Smith, Live At Tales From The Tavern
Vance Gilbert, all of it (Live @ Somerville Theater, Edgewise, Fugitives) - but he has newer stuff that I need to go find. And so do you. Fo' reals.
Chris Smither, Happier Blue (This album always makes me think of egg drop soup, probably because I listened to it a lot one time when I was feeling shitty and making lots of egg drop soup.)
Let cake eat them.
