I'm changing my mind for now, and declaring myself out of the mix. I can't think of songs I want others to cover, much of the time because I want to cover them myself. I've also only seen a few songs I recognize or like in all the lists, and I'm really too lazy to want to cover a song I don't like. If I feel really inspired by the deadline, I might rejoin, but I doubt it'll happen.

Just so you know, it has previously been determined long ago that there is something like a 5-10% chance that a song mentioned by someone on this thread will be known by any other given songfighter. So the fact you know few of the songs is no big deal at all. I know probably 5% of the songs people are listing. That's what makes it fun.

Oh, I realize that. I'm just saying that, in general, I don't feel like covering something I don't know already.

'Tis a shame. The pleasure for me is finding someone I don't know and covering them. Like last year I ended up doing Toad the Wet Sprocket, exactly because it was the one on the list i didn't know and that made it more challenging.

Having said that I tried to make my list this year more 'populist'.

Me too.

My Dad used to say "I don't like this music because I don't know it" which makes no logical sense. Every piece of music you like was music you didn't know at one point. I didn't really like the Rancid song I covered last year, but had a total blast covering it anyway. And I still don't really like it, (though now I do a little bit).

Okay, here are my very final picks:

"Good Woman" by Cat Power
"Porcelina of the Vast Oceans" by The Smashing Pumpkins
"13 Monsters" by Lightning Bolt
"Caring is Creepy" by The Shins

I got bored, so I also made a site with some info and lyrics for these songs. I put them up for download (soon) in case there's any trouble finding them elsewhere. Here it is.

What no tabs? :) Seriously, that's a nice little page. I might be inspired to do something similiar. I fancy having a go at that Cat Power song ...

"The Landfills" list

Post by adjuster »

I haven't given this nearly enough thought, but, then again, I hardly give anything enough thought...

Shonen Knife, "Black Bass"
Big Brother and the Holding Company, "Down on Me"
Taja Seville, "I & I"
Tori Amos, "Concertina"

Rock. Okay, now that the assignments are coming down, what's the protocol for hearing unfamiliar songs? Do we contact the poster via a blind drop spy-style or just start adding links in our declaration post? Who's the surprise for, is I guess, my pressing question.

Oh, and, sweeeeeeet, Niv.

Send Niveous a PM and tell him to pass on the message. I should think.

OK. All the e-mails have been sent out. You can start scrambling to find the songs. If you are having trouble, contact me.

As for the due date, that's up in the air right now. Any suggestions?

To start the ball rolling, I would like to hear my cover as a christmas present. So week beginning 20th Dec might be good. -1 week for people are who are a bit late. -1 week for people asking for an extension.

So I say Monday 13th December, with the real aim of gettin' em all together in time for 22nd/23rd?

Oh while I'm on the subject, I was routing around in my old files, and found thisd - that i scraped together for last year's, then put to one side,

I am also very happy with my picks! I have no problem with finding the song I want to do, as it is one my favorites and I've owned the album since I was 13!

no, cause I put the offer out to everyone.

Edit: you guys are lucky it's over now. I was just ripping my CD collection, and thought about swapping Rush's 2112 in there somehow...

Edit2: someone should cover 2112 except call it Bush: 2012 and make it all, like, funny.
