...hey, I told you not to do it.

Apoligies for not participating in the fights for a while.

Just wanted to let everybody know I'm finally part of a band I'm really proud of called "Saturday Night at the Apollo". No doubt we will submit a song to SongFight! as soon as a workable title presents itself, as all four of us are addicted to going to SongFight! every single week.

Check us out at www.myspace.com/saturdaynightattheapollo.

EDIT[0]:

For those of you who hate MySpace but love free mp3's, here are some direct links to our latest stuff.

saturday_night_at_the_apollo-here_with_me.mp3

saturday_night_at_the_apollo-fairy_tale.mp3

Please keep in mind that everything is still in a DEMO phase, so if something doesnt sound quite right, don't hesitate to let me know but chances are it will get fixed before a final version.

We sound a little bit like the more punkish stuff I've submitted to SongFight! Go figure.

Rock on Puce.
Rock on JB.
Rock on Luke Henley.

I hope PiGPEN never has children. Nevermind, that won't ever be a problem.

"I can't help it, I'm a born lever-puller."

Well, I'm sure, based on what we've heard from you that the band is/will be very good. However, personally think the name sucks. YEAH, I SAID IT!

Don't take it personally...I hate the name "They Might Be Giants" too. But I have 5 of their albums. Go figure.

Best of luck to you guys...if you're ever in Tampa yadda yadda.

Thank you Hoblit, for your trust in my ears, but I kinda like our name.

There's downloadable on that myspace page if you are interested in listening for yourself.

EDIT[0]: Nevermind. I just added links to the first post.
I'm back.

Ahh, not bad, not bad at all.

That second one sort of reminded me of the more mature Blink 182 type song.

It's very catchy.

It sounds just fine, not really my cup'o'drink. Didn't the market get saturated with emo-pop-punk like three years ago? Sounds like you could go places with this anyway. Probably not places I'd particularly care to be, but... it's not you, honey, it's me.

Do you mean "For those of you who hate MySpace..." in your original post right before the direct mp3 links? I don't think many of us here hate SongFight!... Anyway, I concur with the preceding statements. Could be very successful, but I'm not into the name.

My biggest gripe about the mix is the kick drum, especially on the first song. It's too prominent in the mix and there's this stretch where's there's like 10 or 12 kicks in a row, it just kind of sounds fake like it was filled in by hand. It wasn't as noticable when I listened on the headphones.

The music itself sounds a lot like the stuff my eldest daughter listens to so there's a market for it, albeit a saturated one. It's not bad, I liked the first song despite the kick drum thing. I don't mind the name of your band so much, it just doesn't fit with the style of music you're doing. It would fit better if you were doing Soul or Motown type stuff. I look forward to hearing what you can do with a Songfight title.

Ah. Yes I did. Oops.

Saturated market or not, public responce has been better for this then the other genres I have tried. Apparently modern youth culture just jumps at anything that remotely sounds like this.

I admit to being part of a fad which will be short lived, at which point the band changes names and genre.

There's nothing wrong with that man, but what you should strive for is being at the leading edge of things, not the trailing edge.

Don't get me wrong, hell I'll probably just end up playing your stuff in bars instead of leading the charge. But you're young man, so lead the charge, create the genre.

Your stuff is solid, palatable, and well recorded. There's no reason why you can't change genres and still remain "Band X". The Beatles did.

Just because the Beatles were able to do something doesn't mean that everyone will be able to do the same thing.

Yes, it's possible for some people to be simulatenously cool and innovative. That doesn't mean that everyone possesses the ability to do this.

Well then we should definitely discourage trying as much as possible.

Trying is a good thing. Nothing wrong with trying. I have never, and would never, discourage someone from trying something.

when i was a kid i pestered my mother about cake frosting. i wanted her to buy me a cup of chocolate frosting so i could eat the whole thing all at once. she told me how dumb that sounded. i always told my mother that when i went to college i would eat an entire cup of chocolate cake frosting in one sitting and that there was nothing she could do to stop me. she told me i could do whatever i wanted (except premarital sex and drugs) when i'm on my own. she also told me that i would probably regret trying to eat the whole thing in one sitting.

last year i attempted to make my dream a reality. i finished half of the frosting and wanted to throw up. i walked around my room for half an hour, moaning. it was painful.

i wish i had listened to mom's advice. i shouldn't have tried to eat the whole damn thing in one sitting.

Ah screw ya you Pu$$y. I ate a whole German Chocolate Frosting in one sitting. It was one of the most wonderful experiences of my life. Perhaps I exaggerate..but it WAS GOOD.

However, if I had to find an experience that was more relative to yours...I once had found myself downing a pint of Kahluah (sp?) because my Cousin had no other form of alcohol. That I wish I hadn't done. The pain in my stomach wasn't worth the amount of pain the lack of alcohol had caused in headache.

Fantastic.

Blegh.. How could you even eat more than a few spoonfuls of chocolate frosting? It's so sickly.

God, we used to eat these all the time as kids. The trick is to put it in the fridge so that it hardens up. Then it's like eating a bigass piece of fudge.

It really depends on which kind. There's some budget crap that I can't even look at because it's so vile (tastes like brown unsalted margarine and icing sugar), and then there's some not-too-thick, not-too-sweet frosting that I could eat until my heart stops.

I wonder if there's any way to cash in on correctly predicting my own death?

Absolutely! I used to live on that stuff back in college, which is probably why I turned out as the healthy, well-adjusted, productive member of society that I am today.

Yeah, I know I could have looked it up. But, I hate the stuff and didn't want to spend any more time on it than I had to. :=)
