I was about 10 years old when "Anarchy" was first played on Countdown. Countdown was the pinnacle of 'mass public conciousness' in Australia at the time (popular culture-wise anyway). "Seeing the Sex Pistols on Countdown" remains a defining point in history for most Australians of a certain age who have an interest in popular music. Certainly very few 10-year-olds at the time would have known who The Stooges were (I didn't).

Still the proof of the pudding... play "Anarchy" today - I reckon it still sounds pretty good. Sure The Stooges and The Clash have stronger back-catalogues overall - but the Pistols shouldn't be written off as nothing.

If we're chasing down partial responsibilities, Malcolm McLaren & Vivienne Westwood made the band far more mediapathic with both the rags from Sex and the lads' disdain of them as 'authority figures' pushing their behavior just a little bit past what they might normally do in the same situation. Rebellion needs a ruler.

What was I talking about again? Suddenly none of this makes any sense. In agreement with you j$, thought I was going to be argy-bargy-mentutative, but sudden brain fry (and rereading my own reply) shows me how full of crap I was.

I am a Toby Keith fan as I have seen him live and possess a couple of his albums. I don't know how a patriotic song about kicking the enemy's collective ass for attacking and killing 3000 undefended citizens is offensive to any american. (corny maybe but not offensive)

Also, I ALWAYS seperate the artist/entertainer from their personal lives and politics anyways. (Same with football stars because I wouldn't like any of them otherwise) So I don't care about Toby Keith's personal statements on anything and that goes for The Dixie Chicks too. (Which I also love and have three of their albums as well) Toby Keith can sing (as in strong vocals that are right on key and notation)...you just don't have to like it.

I love the Sex Pistols...agreed on everything said though...great tunes that opened SOME eyes while other bands of the time did the same thing at the same time or earlier. God save the queen she ain't no human being.

HOLE (or anything Courtney Love) This is a band that I hate for it's crappy music and vocals.</b> On a completely seperate note, I hate Courtney Love as well based on media observation of her life.

i won't say that i hate nirvana, but i will say that they're waaaaay overrated. dave grohl is the most talented member of nirvana by far.

This thread should've been titled "Currently Not Digging." Or "Not Currently Digging."

Anywho, I don't like Joanna Newsom. Her music and lyrics would be fine if it wasn't for that ridiculous fucking shit she does with her voice. I can't stand that. It is intolerable.

Hmmm. I don't mind that thing Joanna Newsom does with her voice. It has a child-like quality. Plus the music world is made more fun by unique voices (Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Marianne Faithful, Alison Shaw, Johnny Cashpoint, etc.). Plus I have to respect the harp playing.

Nothing against unique voices, but I do have something against them when they are a cheese grater to my ears. I don't want to hear REAL children singing, why would I want to hear some twenty-something imitating a child (which is, in fact, what she is doing)? Sure, harp, whatever. I can't stand the voice.

I hope not. My feelig on the album is the same as Killy but from a different angle. I want to hear more variety in her gear closet. The harp as acoustic guitar concept works for two or three songs then gets booorrrriiinnnngg. I'd like to hear her voice on different styles of music, rather than different voice stylings ....

i've always thought ludacris sucked, but i just heard his song in which he samples ray charles' "georgia on my mind." ludacris can officially go to hell now. it's probably good that he waited for ray charles to die to piss on his song like that. otherwise he would've had to suffer the embarassment of having his ass kicked by a blind man.

Back when "Simple Plan" first came out, I went on a bit of a mission to try and figure out how they had managed to brainwash all these kids.

What I discovered was that most of their song lyrics established the following concept, or at least pieces of it:

1: Your mom hates you. Your father hates you. God himself hates you. Nobody at your school understands you. You are all alone. You are in great pain and you don't know how to express yourself.

2: You find your escape in your bedroom by locking the door and putting on your favorite cd's and playing them at full volume.

3: We understand you. Simple Plan loves you. We find value in everybody and we are here to comfort you - see how we sing about how you are feeling? See how we understand what you are feeling?

4: Go by our next cd so you can feel loved by us again.

All in all, it's a very "Simple Plan".

I think Simple Plan's pretty harmless. I mean, you can't kill punk when it's already dead. In other news, what the fuck was Queensryche all about. What the FUCK.
