Having just played HL1 again, yeah, there are a bunch of similarities in a nice way between the games. Definitely evocative stuff. I don't have a separate HL1 soundtrack CD.

The original Half-Life soundtrack is cool too. I think three or so songs from Half-Life 1 make a return in Half-Life 2. The cool thing with the HL1 soundtrack is that is it an audio CD, so you can just stick the HL1 CD in your CD player and away you go.

Should just be the game disc. The game plays audio CD tracks at certain parts. I cracked my HL1 and put in various other audio CDs while I played. It is an experience to enter a room, filled with boxes and marines firing at you, and Weens Touch My Tooter comes on.

Ernest Bloch, "Schelomo" aka "Rhapsodia Ebraica" or something like that. Hebrew Rhapsody. The version I found at the store is from some Swiss national symphony or other. I actually like another version better, it's conducted by Leonard Bernstein, but that's in the Berklee library and I can't copy it. This one is a live recording which has its own merits. In the words of The Continental, wowee wow wow. A perfect blend of the Romantic and the Modern.

I'm glad to report that Jack Johnson's - 'In Between Dreams', which is so peachily stellar I'm in awe, has taken the place of James Blunt's 'Back to Bedlam'.

Both are worthy of a lot of listening.

The New Pornographers' Twin Cinema - Poppy and catchy, but also beautifully layered, thick stuff. The things they do with melody and rhythm astound me.

Aphex Twin's Come to Daddy EP - I don't hear much about this amazing man around here. There are a few moments on this album that I skip every time they come up (that big Come to Daddy single, for one), but on the whole, this is one of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard.

Heavy as hell and I used to love it, but it just feels kinda washed-out and not as thick as his other songs on that EP to me now and I've gotten tired of it. That was RDJ's attempt at an anti-pop single and it worked and got popular and all and it's a great song, I just think the other songs on the EP hold up a lot better to repeat listenings, because they're not just right there putting everything out there for you.

I still like the song, I've just gotten tired of it.

Yeah, but it kind of signals the end of Dillinger Escape Plan for me. After their old vocalist left, things went downhill fast. Calculating Infinity is their peak in my opinion.

So I was looking at the Spinto Band's album in HMV today, and there are several songfight titles on there, brown boxes and so kind stacey spring to mind. Makes me excited and utterly depressed at the same time. Don't know why, just wanted to share ...

You might be pleased by my songfight entry for "Oversleeping" that I threw together yesterday. It has a very similar vibe. (Recording quiet songs is easier to do in my apartment without upsetting neighbors.)

THE ROCK will be brought again in mid-march when we move into our new house. Well... it will become an OPTION again at least.

Heh! I didn't really think about it that way, but I guess you could say that I am plugging the song before it's even out there. It wasn't my intention, but you are absolutely right.

I am just excited about the song because I really like how it turned out, and it really IS very close in vibe to One Less. I have been listening to the song OVER and OVER.

Not saying that it's going to win, but I do like it. I am thinking HipCola might too, based on his liking One Less.
