Well, from a purely discussion standpoint:
Writefight doesn't really apply, to me. It was sprx's deal, and he did it with a lot of feedback from the SF dudes. I don't know how many songfighters participated in it, but I'm pretty sure he had a non-songfight audience in mind - much like filmfight, which exists in an almost entirely different space from songfight.
Remixfight is kind of interesting. FB is not your average songfighter - he is someone who had a long track record of working with SF and producing really top-notch stuff, and is still one of the best behind-the-scenes songfighters. I dunno if it's fair or equitable to say that he gets a well-deserved pass because he proved himself to be a badass, but that's about the short of it.
Songfight is a complex place, with a complex dynamic. It's everyone's responsiblity to be careful about preserving the good bits.

create a subdomain sidefight.sonfight.org and add diff htdoc and cgi dirs for each event like http://www.sidefight.songfight.org/eagles -or- have eagles.sidefight.songfight.org redirect to whomever is hosting that page.
So this makes it solidly part of the existing community in name and spirit.
I have spoken - youre welcome....

I think I see blue's point that if there was a dedicated sidefight website, then people could just go there, only participate there, and then it wouldn't be a sidefight, it would be their mainfight (which for the rest of us, is songfight). Sidefights are a relatively new concept, and the only sidefight used to be coverfight, which is hosted by JB.
Personally, I am willing to take that risk because I think that having a dedicated spot for all the sidefights is nice.
If the Fightmasters have a problem with this, I'm sure they will make it known. Perhaps they would prefer to add sidefight.songfight.net to the mix.

I still think just a place to archive them would be fine. No hosting on the site. Use the space to keep the music for posterity.

The "splitting the community" concern is only an issue if there's a separate forum, right?
So, uh, problem solved.

Good. So now that that's resolved...deshead wrote:The "splitting the community" concern is only an issue if there's a separate forum, right?

Anyone have suggestions? I really like the idea of maybe just having simple pages like the lists found on SomeSongs, except separated by the fight. Are there free scripts out there with similar functionality...or is this something that will need to be developed from scratch?

You might be able to get some help from remixfight.org, maybe Future Boy would be willing to provide scripts, I have no idea.kill_me_sarah wrote:Are there free scripts out there with similar functionality...or is this something that will need to be developed from scratch?

O.K. look.
I have been resisting posting because my mom told me if you don't have anything good do say, don't say anything at all, but man, I just can't help it.
Everything else aside, the fracturing of the community, the lack of consultation, etc., etc., etc., etc., I must observer that if one goes to sidefight.com, and clicks down into nurein, there seems to be no fucking way to even get to the songs. Can we discuss basic functionality? I'm just sayin. God damned amateurs.
Also, as long as I'm gonna be an asshole - http://www.myspace.com/songfight? I click on the SONGFIGHT logo and I have to register with myspace to get anywhere? Can you say SOLD OUT? Fuck the internet. Just fuck it. I lose. You win. You can have it.

This is all like some bizarre Russian revolution spoof. Except SongFight is the communists (the Reds) and the sidefight is the white kingdom (the Tzar).
And the revolutionaries have taken a hit from the establishment (who are the SongFight communists (not SideFight Tzarists)). Someone has to be the Man of Steel, and can dress up like superman and be ironic in a pop culture kind of way.
Except in one timeline Superman WAS a Communist, which can confuse things a little, if you let it.
