I had reviews mostly typed up in notepad but my computer crashed, so I'll leave you guys with the highlights.
Carpetburn - fuckin' great. Are those drums programmed? Because if so, I want lessons from you. Love the lyrics. I love it all, especially the mellower section.
The Cow Exchange - this one is full of stuff happening, in a really good way. I love the organ rollicking through everything, and the rhythm of the vocals. And the lyrics, great.
Steve Durand - this was really fantastic as well. I wasn't so sure I wanted to keep listening when I heard the accent, but it really works for the song, and the horns are great as always. And the song is just really nicely put together.
Voting for Carpetburn or The Cow Exchange. I'll have to sleep on this one. Sorry to everyone else I didn't review.
edit: Oh yeah, TB: really neat all around. I couldn't vote for it because the singing was pretty bad, to be honest, but neat as hell.

yo-hi everybody. noob alert. thought i'd post some reviews.
@electic sp00ns
i like the way you sing. and touches like the "we-we-we-we" effect. i am a lover of wet t-shirts, too, so that's a plus. i like the primary school style drums, too. tom toms like milk bottles.
carpetburn
your voice continues to surprise. i like the way you say "cliche". the first time, it definitely sounds like you're doing an impression of rick from the young ones. the bass at 2:00 is lovely. very Cure. i love the "cryogenic freezing equipment" ref, it's a bit Flaming Lips, a bit anime. nice. and the lurchy, plungy melodic direction towards the end is a ...bit... Bjorky, but it's getting early and i'm talking nonsense.
cow exchange
this is brilliant. sort of like the theme tune to Bucky O'Hare crossed with someone like Ciccone, Bis, or the entire Rocky Horror Show. like, a "proper song" almost toppled over by the silliness that's stuck to it. it's awesome. do you live in a massive theremin on a mountain?
dark side of archaeology
this is insane. i love the effects, all of 'em. and that descending riff. although the vocals are a bit scary. the shift in pace around 1:30 is pretty exciting. i have know idea what genre this would fit into. it's reminding me more of things like Bomb The Bass what with all the samples, etc. though.
on second listen, this is more awesome. almost Adam F-ish in propensity to cause dancefloor mayhem at some kind of hellish rave. this is a band that live up to the name.
fish sausage
i like this. sort of Cuban Boys ish. the EVP voices around the 2:00 mark spooked me for a bit, because they're in a funny place in the mix. but in a good way. i don't really know how to mark something like this down, though. it's a bit long, i guess. but nicely produced.
produce
i like the rap, or at least the rhythm of it. the words sort of zip by. the melody's a bit boring, and sounds kind of cheap, although i like cheap, and it's already grown on me.
ratt poizon
i like the real illusion of space in the sample just before the breakdown around 2:00, and the change of pace and style itself is exciting. there's some real space guitar in there which i like.
steve durand
this is a real rest for the ears after all that techno. nice trumpet. nice accent. funny words. and just the right length. i can see it introducing a TV show.
tb
i really like the otherworldliness of this. and it really reaches quite stunning emotional heights in those short 2:11. i like the way it's been sung, almost like the voice is about to snap at any moment, like metal under stress! in a good way.
triptolemussnotionsuntohoipolloi
this is 7 minutes long...? er... no thanks. then again, i do love the capsaicin/capsizing pun. but i am an almost masochistic lover of puns. around 3:08 i'm wondering how many people were in the room with you and the encycopaedia. but then, that's cool. the style of the voiceover sort of makes me think of DisneyPedia - enthusiastic, but slightly disenfranchised. nice Jurassic Park reference, that boosts my opinion slightly, but only slightly.
i might miss out on another, better, seven minute long song now, because i shan't want to waste my time wondering if it'll get better like i did with that one. ah well.
definitely between Cow Exchange, DSoA and Carpetburn.

Fish Sausage: That is one disgusting name for a person/band.
Thanks. It's an acquired taste. Good to chew, and good for you, too! Virtually without fat, carbs; it's like GoGurt, but fish! For the health-conscious! And, it looks like a giant, flesh-colored tube. Something you gotta really be comfortable with yourself before chewing on in public...

Thank you. It's been awhile since I wrote, and I'm tryin' to strip off the rust. This forum, and feedback like yours, helps my experiments to evolve into a palatable form of musical expression. Thank you.

+++ Cool so far. The harmonics are cool.
I love the drive of the beat. +++
--- Vocals are karaoke-ey ---
+++ Bridge is great. A really interesting
arrangement. +++
The Cow Exchange
+++ Holy shit!! I've been away for a
while, but damn what a huge improvement!
This is like a better Burning Airlines or
Dismemberment Plan. Fuck yeah!! +++
--- Words are still a bit weird in places ---
+++ But again, HOLY SHIT! +++
The Dark Side of Archaeology
/// I guess it was cool, but not really anything
that made me interested. Perhaps not my style
or just not the right mood to hear this.///
Fish Sausage

enjoyable than this song. ---
Produce
+++ The beat is cool. I like the chord progression
on the organ (?). +++
/// The rap is nice, but nothing memorable. ///
RattPoizon
+++ I am remembering how much I liekd that movie. +++
--- I think I would rather watch the movie than hear this song,
though. ---
Steve Durand
+++ Groovy track. Fake Spanish! Awesome +++
--- The bass is a little sloppy, and your voice tone
still sounds like it's sung through a computer mic.
/// But those comments are admittedly nitpicky ///

know how you did it, but I'm going to sue you for it. ---
Triptolemus's Notions Unto Hoi Polloi

It's about how first impressions stick to an irrational degree. It's the only mini-lecture that isn't about some phonetic bastardization of "capsaicin". I thought it would make an interesting endnote, since you just heard 11 other people (well, 11 characters voiced by 9 people), and you no doubt walk away from the song holding varying opinions about each of the lecturers.EightLeggedOedipus wrote:Triptolemus's Notions Unto Hoi Polloi

On another note, I get the impression that a lot of people think that all of the mini-lectures are factual.

they are indeed programmed, and I wouldn't know where to begin apart from to advocate stealing drum fills shamelessly.a bebop a rebop wrote:Are those drums programmed? Because if so, I want lessons from you.

does this help?
carpetburn - I liked your lyrics. at first i hated the way you sang. but after about half way through i caught on. Your drum were really well programmed but you need better samples, it sounded like you got them from a wesley willis song. if you are going to program your drums try and steal some samples from some songs you like, i personally can't do this right, but others can(unless you were going for that sound, dont know why you would). Also could have used a better mix or something sounded a little thin maybe double tracking that guitar and panning one a little left and one a little right then leaving the drums in the middle and little louder. Add some bass can't remember if there was any? it just sounded like it was sitting on top of everything. But anywho i really liked this song!! contender.
Dark side of archaeology - i'm liking this so far about 30 seconds in. still liking..I was really liking this liking the riff-a-blitz but i really lost interest with the yeah yeahs, but then again it would have sounded like a thousand other songs if you hadn't done that. just wish it was something else that made it different.
steve durand - Are you doing that accent on purpose?! Stop it, ahh!!! oh habenero, i get it. sing normal... then.. i would like it more. steve... the latino. haha. this was pretty good. contender
produce - That voice in the background in the background sounds like strong bad. the repeating the things you say in the background sounds like eminem, not that i know. This wasn't bad for one listen. I'm just really not into rap, only mc frontalot, representing the style.. thats.. got...dis..jointment.
tb - I really liked the beginning and the concept. but i kept wanting it to break into something else. i actually just checked back to see how far i was in the song to see if maybe you just kept going a little farther to make a point.
fish sausage - i've already heard this a million times. nothing in this did anything for me, experimental music should at least be different. I mean do people actually like "roll" down the street going to local "hang out" as the kids say and "bump this stuff". not i, not i. but maybe you do other stuff than just this, ive never heard anthing you do so i could be way off. this could just have been an ill-fated idea. or a just trying it or just because. although i did laugh outloud at the "ohhhh!!"
tnhp - wait a what's it, no, not again. well did i read that you made this up. actually i liked this better than FS but read his review. this was at least a little more interesting reminds me of cow exchange's tri state area how many different definitions of something can we do. mmm. i didn't finish it. sorry. not catchy at all no hook at all. not really music. kinda of like sounds and words, and no that's not what all music is. well maybe at the simplest level, but your not getting off that easy.
cow exchange - Instantly i thought i would like this. and i was right. this was really catchy. Very impressed. I LOVE FIRE SAUCE!!!!!! I cant add anything to this.contender.
eclecticsp00ns - I didn't really like this. unfortunately you are late in my reviews so i'm tired of reviewing.
rattpoizon - Never pick up hitchhiker's. I'll admit i did the techno ball during your song and because of all the dumb and dumber references i almost enjoyed this. maybe you could have used the "most annoying noise in the world" to make some kind of cool riff or something. wow did say that, i dont even know quite what i was thinking. You did end with my absolute favorite line from just about any movie though. i thank you for that.
Well after hard dilerberation(<-what?) I have chosen the cow exchange, i really liked your song and there was nothing that i wanted to change. Thanks for all entries. If i was harsh then im sorry, if i just came off sounding stupid then im sorry.

Thanks for the kind words and/or harsh criticism. I'm not happy with the mix (never am), but glad it had a good reception.
Also great to hear echoes of the freak that is Tri-State Area. Carpetburn, don't let anything stop you from covering it if you get the urge again
. I might even have a vocal track if you want to just redo the music part.
Tonight, I invited a Stuft Burrito, a free taco, and 4 packets of fire sauce to celebrate with me in my stomach. They blindly obliged.
And juice. I love you, juice.
