Hmm, now that I think about it, Stuey named his song something else, but oh well. I won't vote for his song twice :)

I didn't have the heart to tell him to shove it.
I mean, it is a nice song.

Hinc: Fuckin' a That's Good - That's Bad - rocks...heheh - reminds me of an incorporation of certain Reefer Madness bytes back in the Yummy Bug days...

Melvin...ah, fuckin' Melvin.

I have to decide between head and loins on this. Freddie Loves hits me emotionally, but Melvin hits me in the girl-bits...

hm....fuck fuck fuck - all this aural hotness...
Melvin
"I've got the skill - and I know how to kill - give it to me now - you've got the skirt - if no one moves, then no one gets hurt" - fuck I wish I could make out the last of it. God, points for total fucking chemical reaction. I am SO not moving. *wink* RAPT

Freddie
"never get a rhyme out of me" - that note, right there - "me" wow - fucking striking internal chords - and the softness at the end...and the dreamy beginning guitars...oh - I fall right into this one...

Damn.
Beautiful, but I am going for mass, density, excellent use of time and aggression this time, boys and girls. Oh, damn. It is ALL about the girth. Melvin you rocked it.

The last of it:

I don't have time to mess around
while you debate and you consider
gonna count to two and then
it's time to pull this trigger

Heh. Road Rage. 10 = John C. Lodge fwy. Here in Detroit. Please don’t kick my ass.
The 10 referred to in this song is the Santa Monica Fwy in the Los Angeles area, where I'm from. I think there is a Hwy 10 in MN, but they never name them here and that bugs me. I like being able to say "take the 118 (the Ronald Regan Fwy, but I refuse to call it that!) to the San Diego Fwy (405) to the Hollywood (101) and get off on Gower." ... but I would probaby call them all by their numbers for real, I just like that they have names!

reviews to come, I swear!

The Songs here are far too good for me to even attempt to review as I just can't live with you guys and after Trechjuris' reviews nothing I could possible write could come anywhere near, so in brief...

Everybody was great and I voted for Tex Beaumont and the Dirty Hearts

Thanks for all the 'triffic tunes.

Well the reason I was feeling unsure about putting these notes up here, was because you guys made me feel very humble, such a strong collection of songs, but anyway seeings as I was asked so nicely to put my reviews up, I'll do it... (and hey! it's really nice to finally be asked to do something here on songfight! you guys really make me feel welcome, like when i first started entering and nobody said..... oh! thats a different story!)

Jack in the Corner: the corner must be the one that Starsky and Hutch are gonna come screaming round, excellent superfly funk, I get the other comments that mention wire's 12XU but obviously this is nothing like. 8/10

spOOns: sort of like an ambient Jim Reeves. 6½/10

Freddie Love: of all the songs here this suffers the most from the one minute thingy, this just so should be 3:14 and wouldn't be out of place on oolka the Mok's 'Oh Ok LA' album. sweet voice, sweet harmonies, just such a cool song. 9/10

Tex Beaumont and the Dirty Hearts: The perfect 1 minute song, Yeehaw! a slowed down Aquabats style foot stomping joyous piece from start to finish. 10/10

MC Paul Denyer: the 1 2 repeat gets a touch annoying and I'd like to hear you rap about something other than rap battles, even though you are very good at what you do. 6½/10

Cattle Bat and the Brian F's: I like the casualness of this, kinda sounds like it was recorded at a party, which is well fitting, I can almost hear the clink of raised glasses and the happy revellers singing along, oh that was me... 7½/10

Hell Yeah's: Whoa! the Donnas, blimey you guys are professionals, this is well punk! 9½/10

Johnny Cashpoint: ah! excellent Johnny, but the alternating vox is a tad awkward, but the harmonies more than make up for that, this is sooo close to being my favourite, very original sound mate. 9½/10

Stueym: does the Jim Reeves bit far better than I ever could, or maybe even a touch Val Doonican, the only reason I don't score this higher is I don't get the one two connection, but maybe that's 'cause I'm not bright enough. 8½/10

Carpetburn: I've mentioned before just how much I like your voice, this sounds like a full 3 minute song and just seems so effortless, I do feel you guys could do with stretching yourselves a bit though, there always sounds as if theres more to come. 8/10

Leaf 62: this is rather 'Rocky Horror', sorry about the Aquabats reference again but kinda like 'why rock' or 'I fell asleep on my arm'. once again almost perfect. 9/10

Abominominous: <-- is that spelt corrececectly :) Oh joy, this is bloody super perfect, what an excellent voice you have mate, excellent baritone but without any flutter, super control, and the backing vox are spot on, just effortless professionalism, a joy to listen to. 10/10

Heuristics Inc.: nice bubbly into, but the crunch bit that comes after the bubbles is a touch discordant, maybe thats the effect you were after, it's hard to say not knowing how good you are at suduko, but by using an analogy with a bit of understatedness to rate this, you can't beat a good old fashioned crossword, and a crossword this isn't so why do you use them?... a little light compared to other entries. 7/10

Mezcal Monkey: Cool new age jazz feel, which goes a touch Octothorpe, the effects applied to the vox seem to be an effect too far. 6½/10

Melvin: super sweet as always and I love the crash explosion at the end, it's been done before and sometimes sounds contrived, but not in this case. 8½/10

MC What you had for Dinner: robot effect on the vox doesn't quite work, rap in a minute is extremely difficult to do, but you guys almost pulled it off good job. 7½/10

Fish Sausage: Joyously eccentric, supurb, like your reviews, I'm glad this was the lasy song on my playlist, cause nobody can follow this, I've only listened to this like 100 times, such a bloody good song. 10/10

Okay Tex, Abominominous, Fish....
I plumped for Tex because it made me stomp my feet more than the others but only bloody slightly and because it mentioned zombies...

so... the rules go something like "as close to a minute as possible without going over" ... so the-price-is-right style, anybody who is under a minute automatically gets eliminated and doesn't make it into the showcase showdown. sorry about your luck.

i've narrowed down the remaining contestants to a top-five...
(MC WYHFD just barely got cut out-- i liked this song a bunch except i wish it had been pasted together a little less noticeably.)

5. fish sausage: not sure if the creepy is intentional but it's effective.
4. tex beaumont: great lyrics -- really grabbed me from the very first line.
3. heuristics inc.: rather creative subject matter and a really fun chorus.
2. jack in the corner: feels the most like a complete song in one minute.
1. leaf 62: little-known fact, i have a tendency to automatically vote for the song that sounds the most like gwar.

No, it's flawed.

1) As close to a minute as possible without going over
2) Anybody who is under a minute automatically gets eliminated
