There were four judges, but there is a <a href="http://songfight.net/forums/viewtopic.p ... 50">reason that there are three entries.</a>

Okay folks, I know I said that I would get out a song today for this but that's not going to happen. I just found out my uncle passed away (he had prostrate cancer) a few hours ago. I don't think I'll be making any music today.

Continuing the "steal from the judges" theme, here are some reviews:

j$ - Nice poppy weirdness which I love, as you know.

jack - production is very solid. the mix is really excellent though.

phunt - I quite dislike the lyrics. Nothing interesting here.

Ok, now here are some reviews that I actually wrote rather than cutting and pasting.

Spacepub - Not sure if the sample from Wreckdom fits into your story, but that's ok. I love the guitars or whatever doing paddy things in the background, and your signature j$ style guitar leads are great. The chorus here really tends to get into my head and stay there. The echoed flappy drums are good stuff. Don't think the protagonist's defense would work up there, but it still makes for a good song :) Effected vox near the end - nice sound.

jack - mmm, i do like the arpeggios that open it. This sounds really great. And the vox are solid, really great. Kudos for taking lines of lyric from all the fighters and making it somewhat consistent. The no-rhyme restriction does help there. The chorus, very nice. I could listen to this a lot. Reminding me of Dead-related bands... and I don't even think the chorus is repeated too much at the end, something which I am often prone to think.

phunt - first off i'm not impressed that you chose to call your character "bill" a "child molester" and that earns you negative points. the music doesn't capture my attention - it's too minimal behind the talking and the two seem to have little relation to each other. Also there are too many words. This thing flows on with psychobabble and the words just become a flow of meaninglessness. Now here I have been enjoying the island percussion. The music is changing up reasonably often, and that's good. I kinda want this to be done around 3:00.

favorites: spacepub, jack

Jack: This is pretty brilliant, the way nothing rhymes, but it all works together. It sounds like rhyming lyrics, but if you read the lyrics, they don't rhyme. The cut-time/bass 'solo' thing is really good. I can't hear any female vox in this..? Oh, wait, are the high bg vox supposed to be female? Okay, i can buy that, I guess :) I think I mentioned before that your singing voice is pretty much identical to JJ Cale.

Johnny Cashpoint's Space Pub: How much does it bother you when I compare you to Boy George?

Kidding, of course. Tricky! Putting the female vox at the beginning. Where's the handclaps? I like the lyrics. Hell, I like the whole song, This is definitely your A-Game.

Phunt your Friends: I am fighting it with all my being, but I can't help but think this is awesome. The spoken dialogue is the product of a very twisted mind. The running water background effect makes me have to go to the bathroom. This gets all pornographic at the female dialogue part. I dunno, dude. You should be doing movie soundtracks or something. I'm not sure if I'd call this a song or what, but it's very good, whatever it is.

Who am I gonna vote for? Only Glenn will know! BWAH HA HA HA HA COUGH, etc.

Also, is the girl who did the dirty dialogue part single? Just wondering. I don't want her to, you know, like email me or anything. (svenmullet@gmail.com)

They're electronic, at about 2.48 (under the instrumental interlude & bass solo)

Well my vote won't count, so my opinions shouldn't matter much.

Jack: I already posted how amazed I was at the lyrics, heck it's in your tagline now. 8) What amazed me was the way you cherry picked from as many people as you did, yet brought it together in a cohesive fashion. It isn't flawless, but it is very good considering how quickly you pulled it together. Musically, I really like the laid back feel of this. Excellent acoustic guitar work and solid vocals. The mix is stellar, but I'm guessing it was done on headphones because it sounds a little too wide on the seperation on speakers. It's not a condemnation by any amount, just a small critique. My biggest gripe is the obvious omission of PIRATES! Definitely A game material, well done Jack.

J$: From your description of Spacedub, I expected something much different. I had a predisposition that I would hate this style; happily I don't. In fact I really like what you're doing with this. The guitar melody lines are a nice compliment to the arrangement. Mix wise, this is a bit too heavy on the delay for me, but not total overkill and I get where you were going with it. Maybe you forgot to reset things from the "Rate of Decay" fight, or perhaps you fell in love with that sound too much. The beginning seemed like an odd fit on first listen, but on subsequent listens I'm feeling like it's a nice lead in. Lyrically this as solid as anything I've heard from you, which is to say, I really envy your ability in this department. My biggest gripe is the obvious omission of PIRATES! Overall very nice job, A game material as well.

PHUNT: My immediate reaction is, "Oh no. 6 minutes." But I'm committed to reviewing everyone so here goes. As always, it's interesting. I don't consider this music, but it is creative until you get to the "Tiger Lilly" part which some people might call PLAGERISM. LIABLE is the other word you might want to familiarize youself with at this point. Anyway, the script, which is what I would call the lyrics, is compelling. The background noise, which is what you might call the music, is distracting from the script, as I call it. At any rate, when one starts talking about what is good or bad about someone's so called creation of art, these are ultimately expressions of personal taste and impressions. It's the domain of feeling or opinion. So don't sweat what I think about this, just keep doing what it is you do. Which I happen to think is create crappy "music". My biggest gripe is the obvious omission of PIRATES! Some grade of game material.

For me it's:

3 points: Jack
2 points: J$
1 point: Phunt

EDITED for proper Pirate content.

Sweet bonus round, and some rushed reviews.

Jack - Awesome. I really like the way you incorporated other lyrics in, and just the overall feel of the song. I like.

John - Sounds like Midnight Oil ... brrr. I actually really like the end part. I didn't love the start, but this one's growing on me.

Phunt - What was the point? I didn't really love this one.

Niv - Too bad, man.

I actually understand why you guys are judges finally. Good job.

Heh. Whoops. Thanks for correcting me on that. I thought that Dan-O was one of the initial 25 that didn't submit a track.

Dan, your vote is NOT counted. That was my bad, y'all.

All other votes that I have gotten thus far are from Nur Ein contestants for sure.

What, the "I'll never be a sea" vocals, the erotica, or the "This is the story of...." part?

I PLAGERIZED all of those things.

Judge Shite:
Great production, amazing integration of the stolen lyrics. Darn fun to listen to. Nice breath of air at 1:31 before you take it up again. Way to open with the hook. Gonna have to steal that trick. Always good to hear a song you can learn from.

Judge$:
I've been a fan, both personally and musically ever since OctoFest, but that's mostly when I started paying attention, and this is classic Cashpoint and then some. Your compositional style has gotten more complex and the instrumentation is really rich. Cool, man.

Judge Phunt:
I found myself listening through the words for all the musical clips, especially after I heard myself playing flute in there, and they are fun. I can relate to the artistic vision behind this better than some, I think. The vocals are really more textural than anything else, almost part of the rhythm section rather than the lead.

Voting now.
