Book Club- Solid production. Chord pattern isn't very interesting to me, but the guitar sounds good. The lyrics are cute, I like the kid. The female deadpan delivery doesn't do it for me, I really like the male vox however.
King Arthur- Well my daughter (10 months) likes this one best. She stops everything and dances. This is a contender for me. I want to know how you got that bird/key/whistle thing at the beginning. Anyway I love it. This reminds me of the loungier side of Ween on Quebec or something. Anyway just great!
Lon Lobby featuring Anita- I like the tear and tear (tare) play. Beutiful female vox! The keyboard hook get's annoying. The droning guitar is pretty cool, I can't really hear the bass nor drums. Some good things going on but not my favorite.
Max the Cat- This is weird. Not what I was expecting from Max the Cat. OK, the spoken word I hate. The acoustic guitar sounds amazingly great. The female vocals are wonderful too. If it was up to me you'd ditch the spoken word, and make a song out of the other part. It reminds me of the Damien Rice record with the female vocalist.
The Older Brothers- This is my entry. Mad Props to Furry Pedro for the Zoom pedal call. Yes indeed that is the obnoxious "step" patch on my beloved Zoom. I was on the fence whether it was too crazy. There are pitch issues especially in the bridge, this is my bad. Doh! Someday I figure out how to mixdown so it sounds good on my Headphones, the car, the PC, and the stereo system.
Phunt Your Friends- I can't figure out why I love this tune. I guess it's the allowance of space. It's kind of sloppy, but that seems to work to the advantage of the mood of the song.
Pigpen- Nice riff! The vocal style cracks me up. Cool tune!
Ryan Rickenbach- This is my favorite, however I've always loved Bron-Y-Aur Stomp, which this song heavily reminds me of. I get the vocals being slightly Dylan, BTW stick with 60's and early 70's Dylan if you explore Dylan. Also if you haven't heard Led Zep 3, you ought to check that out too. OK so you've just been compared to Bob Dyaln and Led Zeppelin, sounds like you're on to something good. I think this is an awesome track. Great vocals and lyrics and delivery, nice guitar, though I can't help wanting to hear a thunderous Bonham Stomp 4 on the floor with it.
So for me it's between Ryan Rickenbach and King Arthur, edge to Ryan.
Hey, what's that in my beer? (A Tear reviews)

Book Club I love the ice cream truck kid beginning, but things seem to sag towards the middle production a little too monochromatic for my taste. The nerdy vocal works (David Sadarisish) but I’m not sure this is metaphorical or a commercial for the ice cream makers of America. Chorus sounds a little contrived a tear sounds kinda stuck on..
Lonbobby feat. Anita Very interesting track, I like the sparseness and the unexpected sonic twists. Maybe a tad less of the crunch guitar in the chorus. Lyric doesn’t match the strangeness of the track for me. “Deep in my soul…is not interesting enough I want to be surprised more abstract perhaps.
PiGPEN I can’t find my way in here.. Some deconstruction works for me some doesn’t. this doesn’t
Phunt Your Friends How fortuitous a perfect back to back example of how destruction can and can’t work. I’m not sure if I wasn’t familiar with many Phunt entries, I would be so quick to praise, if I might not get it after just one song(maybe I need to hear more Pigpen) but when you see the method to their madness well…damn these guys are good. Always freshly annoying, brilliantly corrosive, articulately inarticulate the acoustic guitar gaffs here kill me, brilliant, the unison voices again just wrong in just the right way. It’s not Daniel Johnson good it’s Jackson Pollock good. I’m a huge fan.
King Arthur Well written song well crafted lyric, this song grew on me a lot. I loved the hook simple yet somehow fresh. The whole production unassuming straightforward. Nicely done!
Ryan Rickenbach Another well written song can’t argue with any of it. The mmms are out of tune but it’s not important song wise. It’s good but it didn’t pull me in. Hard to be specific maybe the singer could have had more at stake. It’s not enough that she’s concealing her pain I want to feel your pain or your need to console her or something.
The Older Brothers I might have lasted longer if the track was more in my face. This is a serious mix problem. The track was too thin and vocal too fat and way too wet. From what I could tell the track was okay but well …
Max the Cat I wish I could do what Phunt does, not all the time mind you, but it’s a skill beyond my ken.
