stueym wrote:Turning left (at a light normally) onto a multi lane highway. Okay this is a weird one, but I have been pulled over for it. If you are turning left onto a 4 lane highway you must turn into the lane nearest to you, then when safe move over to the right hand lane (nearest the kerb/sidewalk). Makes sense really but it is a moving violation (ticket) if you breeze straight into that far lane.
not in CA, suckah! we are progressive - turn left into any open lane with impunity.

also, in CA you can turn any bike lane with a dotted white line into a right-turn lane within 200' of an intersection.

Rachael and I WILL BE THERE for sure now.

Bought the airline tickets. We arrive on Thursday afternoon, and we depart on Sunday night.

Our lodging scenario remains unknown, but we'll be there!

Thanks for the excitement, Mojo. If I had a top 5 list of the songfighters that I am looking forward to meeting for the first time in Santa Cruz, you would be on that list.

I was thinking of how cool it would be to have an area of my music room wall devoted to autographed Songfight pictures, and I would definitely need an autographed glossy "Shark Rider" picture for my music room, if that could be arranged.

ROCK!

Don't know if this connects up with anybody else's travel plans or not, but I will be spending Wednesday night the 16th and Sunday night the 20th of August at the Peachtree Inn in San Luis Obispo. Last time I tried to do the Phoenix to S.F. drive by myself in one blast, I promised myself I'd never try to do that again...

The Peachtree Inn is really nice for $79 a night, walking distance from downtown SLO - http://www.peachtreeinn.com/ I seem to recall somebody talking about adding a stop in SLO on one end or the other of their SFL trip. Peachtree doesn't take pets, but they said the Sands (?) across the street does.

So I will be arriving in Santa Cruz sometime Thursday noon or thereabouts, and will be available for rehearsals, whatever, from that point on. Still planning to stay in Carmel overnight while I'm in the SC area...

The SLO area was fantastic. Just south of town there's a two-room B&B called Bridge Creek Inn which is an awesome place. More expensive than Peachtree but MAN THE SCENERY IS AWESOME. And the house and the owners are great.
Just north in Cambria we stayed in a B&B called J Patrick House which was nice tho also more expensive than Peachtree.
Some really nice restaurants down there.

all right, sorry if this was covered already, but is there a San Jose -> Santa Cruz shuttle or anything? or is it just kind of falling on the mercy of local cats to get cats to and from the airport? looks like all Sunday flights get out of SJ pretty early...

marcus: yes, there is shuttle service from san jose airport to santa cruz. someone might also be able to pick you up if your timing is right.

but yes, there is shuttle service from the airport.

i just pulled this from someone's blog........

How do I get from the San Jose or San Francisco Airports to Santa Cruz?

Shuttle Services

There are two shuttle services that will pick you up at the airport. They both pick up passengers on a regular schedule at San Jose and San Francisco airports. Santa Cruz Airporter charges by the person. Early Bird Shuttle charges by the trip for up to 3 people. If there are two or three of you traveling the Early Bird Shuttle is the best deal.

Early Bird Airport Shuttle (831) 462-3933

Santa Cruz Airporter (831) 475-1214

Limousine Service

There are three Limousine services in Santa Cruz that provide airport pickup. The advantage of these services is they will pick you up at a prearranged time. This means you don't have to wait an hour or two for the next shuttle to arrive. If you are traveling alone these services are about twice the price of the shuttles. If you are two people traveling, their fees are about the same as the shuttles with much better service. For the best prices ask for "Town Car" service.

ABC Sedans and Limousines (831) 477-0170

Cornerstone Airport Express (831) 477-0980

Millennium Limousine (831) 475-4488

Public Transportation

There is no train service to Santa Cruz from San Francisco or San Jose. Taking public transportation from the airports is possible if one is willing to exchange time and convenience for a lower cost to travel. If you are interested in public transit we suggest you look at this web site from UC Santa Cruz that provides all the details.

I think it's settled for myself, but good to have the information for those that may need it I'm sure.

Leg #1 is now booked. Now I just need to make sure I can get back.
