Bloody heck there are four increadibly good songs here and one not so bad, (and it ain't hard to work out which one), only let-down is that there were only five submissions and that there's no 'Copacabana' or 'Mandy'
Still maybe next year for 'Barry Manilow 2'
Can't Smile Without You - Rinkydink
The word that sums this up for me is... SINISTER!
This to me is a brilliant take on what has become a standard for many an artist.
"If I can't have you then nobody will, I'm in your garden looking up at your window waiting for you to turn off the light, then I'm breaking in and you are going to meet a horrible bloody death."
If this were on a film soundtrack then that film would be something like, 'Nightmare on Elm Street'.
8/10
I Write the Songs - Caravan Ray
The word that sums this up for me is... COVER!
Imagine the scene, the Ramones have leapt on stage and are doing a cover version of the Lemonheads doing a cover version of the Monkees 'Pleasant Valley Sunday' but they've changed the words and are actually doing a cover version of Barry Manilow doing his version of
'I Write the Songs'.
If this were on a film soundtrack then that film would be something like, 'Friends the Movie'.
8½/10
I Was a Fool (to let you go) - Jim Tyrrell
The word that sums this up for me is... HEART!
Its 2am in some smokey back street club, the barflys are the only patrons remaining, the resident singer finished her set some two hours previous, when suddenly she looks up from her cocktail and calls to the old guy polishing the piano, "Hey Jimmy, play that song, you kow the one that always makes me cry".
And to polite applause, the old man begins to play, and the upsurge of emotion from the first line begins to drag people from there drinks and by the time the last note subsides they are all on their feet and there's not a dry eye in the place.
Now I understand why you wanted to do this live.
If this were on a film soundtrack then that film would be something like, 'Casablanca'
9/10
Weekend in New England - Hostess Mostess
The word that sums this up for me is... 'JOYOUS'
Sadly missing the gospel choir that this so begs for, yet never to worry because there just happens to be one in my head that is singing and clapping along to this each and every time, this starts out like an epsode of 'Welcome Back Kotter' and finishes like... well thats the only drawback, it just finishes.
If this were on a film soundtrack then that film would be something like, 'Sister Act'
8/10
Bermuda Triangle - @eclectic spOOns
The word that sums this up for me is... 'BRAVE'
Since receiving and giving multitudinous listens to 'King Arthers' version of my 'Don't You', I've been listening to my previous stuff and this has that similar disturbing spOOnsound (no not just the god-awful vocals), but if I was to ever perform live and did this then I might just be pleasantly surprised to notice the temporary absence of thrown beer cans after this one.
If this were on a film soundtrack then that film would be something like, ' Whoops Apocalypse'
6/10
Thanks for the great songs guys.
Okay now all we need is for some brave fellow to organise 'Perry Como' Fight!

Rinky Dink, is your girlfriend from Belfast? I thought I was listening to a female Van Morrison for a minute there. On and on over the hill and the craic is good.
