Dux!

Post by king_arthur »

In one of the other threads, somebody defined "ducks" as songfight songs that got zero votes... so "dux" is (are?) hereby defined as hxaro covers of songfight songs that got zero votes.

Fer instance, this cover of Those Meddling Kids' We Are Perfect In Our Dreams. Enjoy!

Anybody else wanna play? Maybe somebody who has figured out how to extract such info from the SF pages could post a list of songs that got zero votes in the past year or so...

As promised, here's:

A list of "Ducks", sorted by artist.

FIXED: A stream-all playlist of these songs, sorted by artist.

The geeky among you will probably realize you can modify this URL to include songs with 1 or 2 votes, or order by song_title. I leave this as an exercise to the reader. The non-geeky among you will find this font way too difficult to read.

Both of these lists are unofficial of course, but should be automatically updated as new fights complete the voting phase. If you think I'm missing a song, please PM me and I'll check into it.

Note that you WON'T see any songs here from the fights where fightmaster hasn't recorded how many votes a song got (i.e. there is only a "winner", or only one vote was cast for the whole fight), and you WON'T see lyrics that were posted on the songfight.net forums.

Hope this helps.

I believe that all of my Andrew Reist votes were from myself, so if you want to cover any of those, they are basically ducks. I'm not saying that you should. Those songs are pretty poor, in every way possible.

Same for all of the 1-vote Pringle Can and fluffy/fluffy porcupine songs.

The Zombie Son fight seems to be a bit of a freak. Its description is:

Frontalittle was out there with 49, ahead of three or four strong competitors at 16, including Octothorpe, Roymond, and Abominominous

But only 5 votes are recorded in the breakdown. Should I remove it from the Ducklist?

EDIT: Thanks, MK. I've removed Zombie Son from the list since we really don't know how many votes those songs got, plus the fight's over a year old anyway.

Plat -

Wow, great list. I'm seeing a little bit of duplication here and there (for example, Lightning Ear Fart's "Dinga Da Donga" shows up twice, as does the Landfills' "Bad Attraction"), but this is a fine job. Hooray computers!

And, hey, look, Josh Woodward finally got shut out at... something... :-)

Hey, great catch. Thanks; I've fixed it, I think. Long story short, it had to do with the titles changing (dingadadonga vs. dinga_da_donga), and my auto-update code not removing the obsolete name(s). The stream link is also fixed. For a little while, it listed every songfight song ever, rather than just the Ducks. :)

Third String and The Spirit World from the same week as Zombie Son also didn't get votes recorded. As I recall, Spud updated the new songs before posting the results or something, wires were crossed, votes were lost to the ether.

Is there some sort of deadline or should we just post them as we finish them?

Here's another one... I've been listening to the Grateful Dead's "Reckoning," which was an unplugged album before unplugged was a thing...

Steve Durand's Too Far Away.

Enjoy!

Dude!
I just saw this thead. Thanks for the dux Charles! that is really cool, and provides some validation for what I thought was a bit of an overlooked tune at the time :D .

though I think Steve's dux demonstrates a better fundamental song (y'know, for campfires and things), I appreciate it all the same.

I really wanted to do a cover of I Don't Want To Be Your Friend by Sailor Mathew, but I realised I would never even do it justice never mind improve on it. It's a bit of a shame there were a number of good gng's that week, lovely song that.

First of all, everybody knows I'm not particularly good at all this, but when I looked at the list of Dux! I was amazed to note that one of my favourite Octothorpe tracks 'The Blue Signal' polled no votes at all...

(deep breath!) so I took the plunge and attempted to provide my own take on what In my view is a great track... consider this less of a cover and more of a homage, I hope this doesn't get frowned upon too much!

All the best, Nigel (spOOn).

This is awesome! OMG - between this and Lucia, I am really getting more and more impressed. I think your vocal work on this Duck is awesome, particularly the chorus, I mean, really - ha ha! This is such a catchy tune in the first place - and the ending is tops. Absolutely spanking, luv.

Stunning, my man.

We seem to have gotten no votes partly because people wondered what the song had to do with the title. On the other hand one might ask what do ANY of our songs have to do with the title? It's in the ear of the beholder, right?

Anywho, would love to have a wav of this for when we get around to compiling that # tribute album.
