I like the sound and isolation of the HD-280s, but damn if they're not made of fragile plastic. I have completely babied mine and the casing around the headband is all but gone, leaving wires and a sharp metal edge exposed.

Apparently this is a common problem with them.

Well, I can see from the top of this thread that I've had these for about a year and a half now. They've become my go-to 'phones which is appropriate because they cost the most. I've had no plastic issues. I feel like I hear more extreme highs and lows than I should but that that mostly serves to make things sound better. And maybe that's more a commentary on my other gear. The only thing I don't particularly like them for is recording vocals because they make me feel kind of detached from my own voice.

Bottom line is that I wouldn't mind having a second pair of these around for when I'm recording someone else and I might bite on this deal (which goes to March 4, btw).

Have had mine for about 3 years, still mint. Great response, nice and clear top, surprisingly deep bass.

They are also very effective at turning a normal cell phone hands-free.

I like mine for isolation but their frequency response is a bit low on the treble end. Recently I got a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M45s which I'm quite happy with, as they have a flat frequency response up to 28KHz and very good isolation.
